Seeds are in the mail!

I just wanted to let all of you know that the seed swap packages have been mailed!

I had to make two trips to the post office, but I was able to get them all in the mail.

Well, all except for Eduarda and Pat_tea's (I emailed you about this Patti, please let me know if you didn't get my email. The post office refused the package b/c they told me the zip code was wrong.) And Eduarda's- the post office I went to was so tiny they actually ran out of customs slips, so I have to go back another time.

Just wanted to let you all know that the packages are on their way. I hope they all arrive safely and thanks for joining in on the swap this year!

Tracy, I included a custom slip and postage paid for Eduarda's package. Did you get it?

Thank you sooooo much for all your hard work. The seed swap has been the highlight of my year. I can hardly wait for the winter solstice and spring.

I got my seeds! That's the nice thing about being close to Tracy, I get to be first! lol.
It was like opening an early Christmas pkg. I got such a nice assortment of seeds! I can't wait for next year. It was interesting to see all ways people pkg. seeds too.
You all sent such nice things! I hope everyone enjoys the seeds I sent just as much.

What seeds are okay to mail in ordinary envelopes?

'Some' members require traders send seeds in bubble mailers, or they will not trade with you. Some members will leave a bad review if a bubble mailer is not used, so it would be best to check with the trader before mailing. Only very thin padding will work, or else the envelope will go over 1/4" allowance and will either be returned to you for additional postage or else the receiving member 'may' owe postage due when they get it. It would be far better to 'deal with' those Post Office workers who are overcharging, than to risk the seeds being crushed, or postage owed, or the whole thing ripped to shreds if/when it jams sorting equipment, or a negative review. I suggest you go to the link below and totally explain how you are being overcharged. Only you can make the complaint, with all the details. The form asks: *Who committed the alleged misconduct/wrongdoing? (What is the title/position held by the alleged wrongdoer? *What are the facts, what caused the problem, and what are the results of the problem? *When did the misconduct/wrongdoing occur? (Please provide dates and times, if possible.) *Where did the misconduct/wrongdoing occur? *How was the misconduct/wrongdoing committed? *Do you have first hand knowledge of the misconduct/wrongdoing? *Where can we obtain additional information concerning the misconduct/wrongdoing? *Who else might be aware of the misconduct/wrongdoing? If you would like, feel free to email me and I will give you my contact info. Winter Seed Swap (by mail)

I like them in individual envelopes and ready to go to the next person. I buy small plastic bags in the wedding department at Walmart for mine. As long as the seeds are dry they work fine. If someone has asked you for a specific thing and they are part of the swap, just put their name on that envelope that you send in. Yes, I volunteered to do the swap. It is a MUST to include your gardenweb USERNAME in your package. I will post as I receive things, and at the specified mailout time, I will post that they are being mailed. George suggested the number of seeds (25) for the swap. Now would someone like to specify the number of packets to send. Understand that you can send more than that if you want, but not less than the specified amount of packages. Just tell me what you want done with the excess, or otherwise I will just divide it up for everyone. Ilene, the old postage rate of $1.14 was the parcel post rate and sometimes you have to get a little tough with the post office over it. Seeds can travel in a bubble mailer as "large envelope rate" as long as you keep the envelope from being more than 3/4 inch thick. That might mean that you have to tape your bags to a piece of paper before you slide them in the mailer to keep them from shifting around. When you ship "large envelope rate" they will push the envelope through a template to make sure it is not too thick. I guess my feeling about the cost is this: Even if it cost $1.50 each way to get your seeds, you get to try a lot of things for $3.00. A lot of packages of seed cost that much or more, and some of them don't even have 25 seeds in them. Some of you are seed savers and can select right from your own plants. Others of us buy too many and have plenty to share. Some need only a few seed of one type for the season and the others don't get used. I think it is nice to be able to try a few of a variety to see if you like it or if it does well in your garden, before you invest in a bigger quantity....hot peppers come to mind. I would love to have dozens of ancho peppers, but a couple of chili peppers is plenty for me to plant in a season. This year I have about 3 dozen pepper plants, but they are probably 8 or 9 varities. This also provides a challenge for those people who don't normally plant from seed, and an opportunity for those who do to add a few new things to their garden. How many packs????? Also, I would like to limit it to everything being mailed in the same week to ten days, so I don't have them at my house forever. If we set a date, like mail between Nov 1st and 10th, then I could have them all on the way back to you by Thanksgiving and they wouldn't be in my way for the holidays. I think some of you will still be saving seed in October so we probably need to go later rather than earlier. Ideas?

Well, now i feel like an ass - I was going to call them today if I didn't get the seeds in today's mail, but I just got an email from Marianne, apologizing, saying the seeds must have gotten lost in the mail. Which doesn't surprise me, considering my crap luck and Chicago mail. She was very nice and is going to resend the seeds via express mail. And explained that she just had surgery so hadn't checked email. So I'm an ass, no doubt about it. Chicago mail sucks. Marianne's Seeds is back on my good list. I've always gotten my seeds quickly so I didn't think I was being scammed - I was just annoyed that there was no reply to my emails. Note to self - next time call! My aversion to the phone doesn't help in such matters. Anyway - thanks for the suggestions/support!

Oh Tracy; I am so sorry. I hope I didn't have a Senior Moment when I mailed them out or one of my invert numbers moments. My zip is on it's way. In the mean time I'm pouting because I didn't get mine.

Edna: Yes, I did get the customs slip you attached. I'm such a ding-a-ling, I wrote my address in the wrong spot. So I figured I'd just fill out a new slip at the post office. But they were out!

Patti: I got your email, but was unable to respond to it. Comcast told me my email address was blocked because of spam or something (not sure why??). I'll double check the zip code tonight and let you know in the morning.

Glad you all enjoy what you've received!! It's fun playing Santa.

Yippee!! Got mine today too. Thanks Tracy! So many of the seeds I wanted, I can't wait to try! I got the red swamp hibiscus, campanula latifolia, purple pepper seeds and lots, lots more. It was a dreary day today, but the seed package was a bright note.

Oh man, I am so jealous! I've got to figure out how to harvest the crop of seeds I might get this coming year.

I had tons of them on my Cape Honeysuckle plants-- spent hours picking them off, spreading them out, sorting and admiring. THEN I read somewhere that these little boogers probably wouldn't even grow. Or maybe what I read meant that they wouldn't actually grow or that the resulting plantlets wouldn't be like the parent? Whatever..... I've got lots of these seeds. Man, this gardening thing is such an adventure.

MINE ARE HERE TOO! WHAT FUN!!!

Thanks to you who marked seeds just for me - such nice varieties. I have lots of looking up to do! Spilanthes is Peek-a-Boo! Who knew? I just found out anyway.

The best part of these swaps are the new things you'd never find on your own. I always find something new and beautiful or entertaining for my garden.

Surly Hermes himself must have delivered the seeds. I got mine today also, all the way in California.

Once again, I thank you so much Tracy. I was so worried for you this year with the increase in numbers compared to last year. You are just about one of the most patient and organized person I know. Is that an Aquarius trait? If so, I must be more on the Pisces side :-)

I also thank all the participants. I received more seeds than I anticipated. I will have a bit of every cottage garden member in my garden. That is a great blessing.

Pat_Tea, I adore the poem you added on the packet. I want to make a sign with it and hang it in the garden.

I am sure to be the happiest girl in the world at the moment. . . . Thank you all so much!

p.s. Xuan, from Vietnam, is visiting her family which so happens to live down the road from me. We will meet for the first time next week (I'm so excited). I will be giving her seeds from you all to take home. Imagine that, your seeds growing the other end of the world.

I've never had so much fun opening a package before! Thank you Tracy your such a sweetie for doing this for everyone! Ohhhhh and thanks to everyone who sent in all the great seeds!!! I've been telling my husband, "I got this...and I got this...and I got that and oh my gosh I got some of this toooo!" He just smiled and asked me where I wanted my new butterfly garden!!! Yes, the butterfly's are gonna love me next year! Thanks everyone!

I got mine last night! My husband was laughing as I was oohing and aahing and sitting in the midst of a pile of seeds, happy as a pig in slop!!!

WOW!! I received my seeds and was so happy. Tracy you did a wonderful job of hosting. I called my family and friends to save more milk jugs for winter sowing. I can hardly wait. I want to grow and share. I never dreamed I would have so many varities of seeds, and so many of them were my wants!!!

Edna; thank you. I wrote the poem based on a Scripture. I too plan on putting it on a sign. Glad you like it. I just can't wait to get my seeds.

Tracy; I have not received your e-mails. I have Nortin Spam on my computer but it usually puts them in a folder and I check it everyday. Again, I am so sorry for all the inconvenience this has caused you.

Patti: I received an email from Comcast saying that I was on their spam list (not sure how that happened!). So I have to file a complaint to be removed. That's why my emails to you haven't gone through. But last night I did check and the zip code on the envelope was mismarked. So I'll fix it and get it in the mail to you!

I got my seeds last night - I had so much fun looking through them! What a variety of seeds!

I'm so impressed with how ingenious you all are at coming up with ways to package the seeds. I loved the ones that were made out of plant catalogs, that was so smart AND cute.

Did the person who was looking for Crimson Clover seeds get some in the swap? I was so rushed in getting my seeds in that I forgot to look back and see who that was, and I didn't mark any especially for whoever that was.

So if anyone still needs those Crimson Clover seeds, please send me an email through my member page.

Hi Everyone!

I got mine yesterday in the mail too- I was so surprised that Tracy got these out so quickly! I expected them aroudn christmas time really!!

I just have to say that you all jus tpu tme to shame with your little creative envelopes and labels. Please excuse my huge white envelopes and sloppy handwriting- it was all I had and had to get them out fast!

where did you all find such cute packaging? jeesh.
I may need to ask for pictures of some of these as I have no idea what they are. I'll try looking them up on line first though..

i was amazed with how many i got too- and the nice variety.
I'm not sure where to put them all! LOL

Tracy- I have no idea how you decided what to give to who- i woudl have seen all those seeds and just given up. You are one girl up for a challenge for sure! Bless you!

Wowie Kazowie!!! I got my seeds today and it was so much fun to go through them all!!! I had such a bad day at work so it was sooo nice to come home to a big envelope all full of such wonderful surprises. Thank you so much Tracey for all your hard work and thank you everyone for all your great seeds. I can hardly wait to get started. Winter will be so fun sowing everything!

This has been so much fun! Thank you Tracy for hosting the swap. You did an awesome job. I know this has been quite a project. I admire your organizational skills...I would have been so overwhelmed. Thank you everyone for the wonderful seeds! I just couldn't wait to get home and hoped that my package would be waiting for me. I was so delighted...all the cute little envelopes. I received much more that I expected. This surely is Christmas! I think it's so cool that I'll have a little of each of you in my garden. You've really got this newbie hooked!

Sigh, being at the end of the world, I have not gotten mine yet, even with the priority mail. Hopefully tomorrow, so I can plant the winter sow ones on Turkey day!

I haven't received mine yet either Leasa, but I am hoping they are in my mailbox this evening.

If I remember correctly, I received mine a couple of days later than everyone last year, too. Strange how the mail works sometimes.

I'm getting caught up in everyone's enthusiasm, though!! :-)

Tracy, Edna has offered to give me some of the seeds she'd received to take back to Vietnam when we meet next week. You can guess my joy being the ONLY ONE PERSON to grow a cottage garden in the whole of Asia (?) from REAL SEEDS taken from cottage gardens in America! What an experience!

I actually took one of those envelopes from a mastercard junk mail and put it in the mailbox so I'd know when the mailman came (the flag would be down) BUT NO SEEDS CAME!

Just as well; if it were between looking at my seeds and setting the table, I know the seeds would win out.

Looks like I have to wait until Friday.

YEAH!!! I GOT MINE!!!!!

GET THIS: (only in Eastport!)

My hubby went to the PO this am to mail something and while leaving, our mail man was just getting ready to leave to make his deliveries and he said to my hubby, I just left a package on the front seat of your car so don't sit on it!

How cool is that! I LOVE living in a small island community!

Mine came yesterday too, and I can't believe the number and variety. I got far more than I contributed. I am humbled. Thank you, Tracy and all you generous cottagers. I have new beds in mind for next spring, and it will be so nice to have all these cool new plants to fill them up.
