That's too bad. In your place I would call (not write or email) the vendor and explain what happened, and that you're a repeat customer. They might be willing to make good on the order. Worth a try? Gary

Who are you dealing with??? Wow. I've had mistakes where they've replaced seed that didn't germinate - they sent me a whole new pack only to find a day or two later the original pack germinated and then I ended up with two packs. Another time I changed my address, they sent it to the old address and the new home-owners denied getting any package - I banged on the door of my old house and demanded my seed and got it, then a day or two later the company sent me a whole new order of seed. If they want your business then they should make good - or start ordering from another company! Wow. That is just awful. I'd like to know what company/vendor is not making good. Wow. That's bad.

I also am curious which company you are dealing with. I've never had your problem, but I have had seeds and plants I ordered that I was unhappy with. When contacting the companies I was offered a replacement or credit.

Give their customer service a call.

Technically, they are not responsible if you did not purchase insurance on the package. There's really no point in insurance on something so cheap. But, any decent business would replace a pack of seeds, besides they get to write that off on taxes. If they don't replace it I would just find a new place to spend my money.

I recently ordered some tomato seeds from an online vendor and still haven't received them although the vendor claims they mailed them to me 13 days ago. I made previous orders with this company and never had any problems before.

This is what I read and I don't see any suggestion that Californian was told they wouldn't replace the seeds.

Did you have such a chat with them and they refused to replace the seeds?

Hooray, I finally received my seeds today, and the postage meter date says they did mail them out on March 17, don't know why it took 13 days to get here since it was mailed first class mail. BTW, the company was Hazzard's Wholesale Seeds, and they now remain one of my preferred seed vendors. It was an expensive pack of seeds, 100 Sun Gold hybrid tomato seeds for $9.50, plus they had a special of $1 shipping. Their prices on large quantities of hybrid seeds are kind of pricy, but they have very good prices on open pollinated seeds if you can use 250 seed packs. And up until now I always got may seeds within 4 to 8 business days from the date of my order, and never had a back order or out of stock, and always had good germination rates.

I once had a shipment of roses take the long way to get to Wisconsin (it ended up in Texas for a bit) and I emailed the company about it when it was taking more than a week to get to me. They sent me a second shipment and told me to keep the first set and they'd likely be fine even after their road trip. So I'd expect a company to reship the seeds for free.

One thing I noticed, the outer envelope had been ripped open, but the seed packet was still sealed. Possibly it was delivered to the wrong address, the recipient looked inside to see if it was anything good, saw it was some tomato seeds, which they had no use for, and gave it back to the mailman. Or else someone in the post office opened it to see if it was anything they wanted.
My mailman must have poor eyesight because at least a couple of times a month I get someone else's mail, which I put back in the box and write wrong address on it unless it is obvious junk mail. But I don't want to complain because then he might misdeliver all my mail for revenge.

The post office often opens them not because they might want it but because it could be seeds to an illegal or invasive plant that would not be allowed in your state. It's happened to me a couple times in the last 2 years. I've opened packages not belonging to me not because I'm a thief but because I failed to look at the name on the package before opening.
Funny you think they're all thieves and point fingers at me for voicing my opinion.

That sucks, cali. I'd get a hold of some type of manager in their customer service dept.. Couldn't help but laugh a bit when I saw this thread heading though. ;)

Interesting to see someone else asking this question. I ordered a number of packets of seeds from mariseeds.com on 3/14 - was told they were being shipped on 3/21. Here we are 3/31 and nothing yet - I've emailed them twice to ask if they really did go out on the 21st. No response at all. I'm so bummed - I've ordered from there for years and have always gotten my seeds quickly. The lack of response is beyond disappointing - and the lack of seeds!

Still no seeds from Marianna's Seeds and NO response to emails. So is the consensus that I'm just SOL if the company is non-responsive? I guess I can leave a negative rating on gardenwatchdog.com - I'd rather have my seeds or my money back though, sigh.

Have you checked to see if your charge card or PayPal account was charged, and when? If it has been, then CALL them. On the sites main page, there is a link that says "Contact us" and the phone number is listed.

Definitely call them if you haven't got your seed, Gardengirl. I would call the CC company and put a stop to payment. That is just wrong.

There are so many wonderful places to get seed - good varieties of seed - from people who love gardening! Give them a chance to win your business!!

Well, now i feel like an ass - I was going to call them today if I didn't get the seeds in today's mail, but I just got an email from Marianne, apologizing, saying the seeds must have gotten lost in the mail. Which doesn't surprise me, considering my crap luck and Chicago mail.

She was very nice and is going to resend the seeds via express mail. And explained that she just had surgery so hadn't checked email.

So I'm an ass, no doubt about it. Chicago mail sucks. Marianne's Seeds is back on my good list. I've always gotten my seeds quickly so I didn't think I was being scammed - I was just annoyed that there was no reply to my emails. Note to self - next time call! My aversion to the phone doesn't help in such matters.

Anyway - thanks for the suggestions/support!
