Most fragrant Tea-Noisettes: Top T-N for both type of scent and strength of scent:Duchesse d'Auerstadt A vendor was selling a row of huge plants (budded onto root stock) of Duchess d. A. at the Old Rose Celebration a few years ago and all the large plants were in full bloom and I was kicking myself for having ran out of cash for it was the most fragrant of any Tea-Noisette I'd ever smelled at vintage gardens or at s.j. h. rose garden... The apricot colored blooms with a touch of pink were large and luscious and scented of stone fruit, and Musk rose, heady and seductive... at that moment I wondered why so many people favor Reve d'Or in comparison. My favorite yellow rose, and if it were the only yellow rose in the world I might be content, I adore it so much. It's 2016 and the plant is c. seven years old, it came from Rogue Valley and it blooms fully in spring, however rebloom in summer and autumn is only c. 25- 30 percent of the spring flush. It has a really lovely refined fragrance that is dependable, under all conditions and more than moderate in strength. If only I could find a well repeating clone. FF and 1/2 out of five. from Rogue Valley roses. _____________________ I can only rarely detect any scent from the Lamarque that I bought from A.R.E., it has a slight lemon scent scent with a meadow finish... and it's foliage is not nearly as pretty as the one at Morcom Amphitheare of Roses labeled California 'Lamarque' .The blooms are very beautiful but it's not the rose I so fiercely desired. Hi Dax, My apologies. So I am not the best with putting notes on these photos... nor, clearly am I very good at identifying these plants. And obviously would starve as either an artist or designer... I have attempted to mark the photo with notes on the shrubs and where I want the flowering tree on the left and the conifer on the right. (my hubbie is the one who really wants the conifer) So I may be trying to accomplish too much in this pretty small space. I just think the beds need some height since the house is so tall and narrow. There is a hodgepodge of other plants as this used to be a rental house(you correctly noted a lone daylily, there is a winter sweet lost behind one of the juniperus bushes and other random plants that I can relocate, etc.) Basically, everything is up for replacement with the exception of the peonies, and what you think is some type of weeping mulberry (again, I am not a fan of this tree and would prefer to see it go but that may be a tough sell with my husband and it is the only plant in any semblance of decent shape) I was simply going to start with taking out the juniperus bushes (because they are overgrown and imho don't have any very attractive qualities)and then go from there... probably better to have more of a plan. i can or could agree with you on some of the list, if you don't take care of your plants, i do have gold flame honeysuckle. i have it on an arch. every fall i clip it back to about 6" or so, and in the spring it comes right back up and just as beautiful as ever!! when we first bought our house, it had over a foot of dead vines under the live ones, i had to cut all that back, it was a real pain in the butt!!! now it looks great though, also on that arch is my orange trumpet vine for the hummers. and that one is very thick!! but it also has to be cut back. if you don't do this it all just dies for the next years growth anyhow. so i don't know why people wouldn't want to cut it back?? and severely!!! and the honeysuckle smells awesome!!! :') ~Medo

Unless 'Arbequina' is a self maintaining seed strain you would have to be buying clonal stock (as in ones grown from "branch cuttings") to get the true item. However, the common sales pitch that container grown nursery stock does better because it can be planted without the roots being disturbed falls apart as soon as the grower leaves the plants in the same pots too long and deforms the roots. In which case these roots need to be pulled open etc. at planting if a defective specimen is not to be installed on the final planting site. Otherwise the tree or shrub may fall over or girdle itself many years in the future. Many kinds of woody nursery plants are also grown in containers because these types are intolerant of being moved bare rooted or otherwise having most of their fine feeder roots cut off or dried out. (Even with balling in burlap most of the small roots are lost when the plant is dug). A broad leaved evergreen such as the olive would be expected to fall within this group - if you find you have been sent pot bound stock (a universal problem) you may discover when you work on the roots at planting that the top shows adverse reactions like wilting or shriveling; all you can do is coddle the new planting with shading, frequent watering and mulching (this last should be standard practice anyway) and assume it is going to pull through. It's either that or plant something with bad roots and hope that circumstance will not come back to bite later. I wouldn't bank on any olive tree being a lasting outdoor specimen in USDA 7.
