Mexican Art looks very cool witht the yellow stripes, and I think Lee Ann Williams looks like an orchid. I had some strange ones the day after the storm, like some Siamese twin blooms, but I didn't photograph them. Here's TEXAS BLUE Eyes with an unusual extra petaloid.

Nothing that strange blooming here yet. I have never seen anything like MEXICAN ART with those yellow stripes. Extremely strange for sure.

I had one looking like Lea Ann Williams with that weird thing going on with the petals last year. It has scapes now, I wonder if it's going to do it this year too. It was only on 2-3 flowers and then it got back to normal plain looking bloom.

I don't have anything to add, but I wanted to say MEXICAN ART looks really cool like that. Somebody hurry up and hybridize one that looks like that all the time! :)

That's what I was thinking. Racing stripes would be a great daylily modification. Then you go FRANS HALS on it, and end up with red petals with yellow stripes and yellow sepals with red stripes. Brilliant!

I also like that CLEAR MOUNTAIN MORNING photo...reminds me of a gladiolus.

As for weird cultivars, there's a registered daylily called WIGGED OUT that mostly just grows proliferations instead of flowers...worth looking up if you're interested.

What a striking pic of Clear Mountain Morning. I hope that it has been vigorous as well.

Mantis, this is only the second season for CLEAR MOUNTAIN MORNING in my garden. It started out last year as a very wimpy single fan (which I whined about to the seller), but is now 3 nice sturdy fans. It's still too early to say whether she is 'vigorous', but she is a good plant and the flowers are pretty, and are fairly weather resistent. I hope she will be vigorous since I really like pink. But I was certainly surprised to see the extra petals (which also occurred on blooms prior to this photo).

The FFO on ALL FIRED UP had one petal that was curled up to
the center of the flower. Its other petals, sepals and
color were very good. The second flower that opened was
very nice. I didn't realize those things had a name and
its
meaning.

My Fall Wish List just grew by two more: Clear Mountain Morning and Lea Ann Williams. Mexican Art would be on it, too, if it weren't dormant! Great pics!

Our 95-105 degree heat has caused some of my daylilies to do strange things, too!

Christine, that is a nice picture of CMM. The petaloids give it an extra dimension and I like all the blooms in a row.

Nate, I think you are on to something there. The only daylily that I've seen that had a striped effect was Cat Ballou and it is very striking! I like your idea. As far as Wigged Out, I'm surprised that anyone would want a daylily with only proliferations. I would want flowers too, lol!

Kay, my clump of All Fired Up has put out a lot of polytepals this year. I wonder if it was all the rain we had?
