1st-Iresine, bloodleaf is one of the many common names
2nd-Tecoma capensis, Cape Hpneysuckle

The Tecoma can be weedy, but it can be half tamed if you don't allow the branches to touch the ground. They will root where they touch.

First picture looks like Joseph's Coat, Parrot Leaf, Calico Plant Alternanthera ficoidea.

The second pictures is a Trumpet vine or Trumpet creeper (Campsis radicans)

Felix, your suggestions are both plants that look really similar, but I think Minibim's got it. Trumpet creeper has a very differenly shaped bloom, for one thing.

I don't know anything about iresine except that I keep seeing it in stores. Anyone here really love it?

I love it because it likes shade and provides a striking contrast to the mostly green plants that are in the shady area of my garden. I would post a picture, but I just divided it to plant some in other areas of the yard so it doesn't look very nice now.

Cathy, I hard trim my Cape Honeysuckle twice a year. It can get gangly but is easy to control. Butterflies, bees and hummers love it.

I will try trimming them back. Is this a good time of year to do it? I've seen a lot of bees and butterflies at them, which is one of the reasons I enjoy them so much. It's also been a nice natural fence.
