Can someone help me operate this stupid camera??
Comments (10)Hello Superchick: I have an earlier model of your camera, the S2 IS. It has an abundance of adjustments and these have to be used to maximize what the camera can do. Refer to the manual, maybe its the little booklet that discusses all the settings. There should be one for lighting source. The number of adjustments is limited when in the "auto" mode. Rotate the selection dial to "M" for manual, and all the adustments become available. I shoot in this mode most of the time because of these adjustments. However, one looses the automation when in the "M" mode. Find in you manual, or drill down through the camera's menus to find the adjustment for lighting. Example are, sunlight, cloudy, incandescent, flourescent, etc. The camera probably came defaulted to sunlight for outdoor shooting. The color cast of the photo is entirely dependent on the color content of the lighting source. Without adjustment, lighing by and ordinary light bulb (incandescent) will have an orange cast, and flourescent will give a strong color cast related to the phosphor of the lamps's coating. Flourescent lighting may produce a bluish, washed out result with missing reds. Light from a flourescent lamp is strong in narrow color bands and may be missing other colors entirely. It is usually a poor source for photography. The built-in electronic flash give a blue-white light. Its effect is determined by how much of the light came from the flash and how much came from other sources. if the flash lamp was the primary source, then choosing a daylight setting may give good results. This is something that can be sorted out by making a series of test shots and becoming familar with the results. Rememeber, its a digital camera and trial shots are cheap and can be deleted when you are done with those. The default ISO setting for my camera was 80. I increased to 100 and no more. I raise it only in circumstances where I can not get the shot without more speed. The lower settings give better color saturation. I had major problem in that my outdoor shots tended to have burned-out portions. The dynamic range was disappointing. Apparently, the default setting was set toward over exposure. I found improved results by setting the exposure adjustment -1/3 to -2/3 f-stops. Some of my shots are on the dark side, but these are readily compensated with software. The burn-outs can not be fixed. Check you camera menu for the setting of the IS mode. It can be turned off! If yours is off, of course, it is inactive. The three choices are (1)off, (2)on all the time, and (3)active only when the shutter button is pressed to the first detent. I use (3) to save on battery power and yet have the function. In this mode, one must press the shutter button to its first detent and wait for the lens to focus before pressing further to make the shot. I found this requires good dexterity, sometimes more than I can muster. The first detent is so light, that I may push the button all the way down. I wish there was a greater difference in the feel for this feature. Leaving the IS feature activated all the time uses a lot of battery power since the lens is continually hunting for focus as the camera is moved....See MoreCan someone please help me to understand this?
Comments (7)LOL - I'm not sure I could figure it out from those instructions either. It is very easy and if someone could show you, you would understand in minutes. Hold the garment so that the wrong side of the garment is facing you. Fold the hem to where you want it to be and pin it in place. Now pick up the garment and fold the penned hem back under the right side of the garment until you can see about a quarter of an inch of the hem (not the fold). The 1/4 inch is the space in which you are going to be sewing so you should now have the wrong side of the garment facing you and the hem part should be on your right but is folded back under the garment except for the top 1/4 inch. Now, move you pin from the back side to the front side to hold the fabric in place while you sew. You sew in that 1/4 inch space and you machine reaches out with a zigzag stitch about every 4th stitch and catches the wrong side of the garment. After you sew and unfold the hem, you should have tiny little stitches showing from the front side of your garment. I use a short stitch length when I hem. If you get a pucker then you have your zigzag too wide and it is catching too much fabric. Once you get it, you will love it. I have a friend with an alterations business and she decided to quit because she was moving and wanted to sell all of her equipment. I bought her blindstitch machine. A year later she decided to go back into business in her new town and I sold it back to her. I had never used it because it is much easier to use the blindstitch on my Bernina....See MoreCan Someone Help Me With Temperatures?

Comments (12)This isn't to be rude...but more educational: It's funny how people not in the business don't realize the complexities of kitchen ordering....and the time required to write up a clean, perfect order. . Yes, some orders are easy and just require the basics. But today, most kitchens are more complex (or customized) and go floor to ceiling. Expectations are so much higher. Every little detail must be spelled out. Knowledge of how things fit and clearances all go hand in hand with a kitchen order. Also, the box construction and overlay will determine how you order the cabinets. My order of a frameless kitchen will be completely different from an inset kitchen. Many times people are shocked when I tell them in can take me anywhere from 1-3 days to get an order faxed in. Things you have to check: hinging, finished ends, corner clearances, appliances specs, hardware fit or interference, ceiling heights and crown molding design, unlevel floors and ceilings....I could go on and on. Some orders require me to hand-draw a custom cabinet for the factory. And once you get it faxed in....then you wait for the acknowledgement and you have to check it and double check it again! THEN it goes in to production. My clients think they'll get the cabinets 6 wks from when they hand me the deposit. It doesn't work that way. Figure in another week for ordering write up, factory time in processing the order and time for me to double check everything again. Have said all of that, I'm sure there are some freelance KD's out there that could help you out. Maybe Barkers has a list? Do you expect them to take on any fit responsibility to your house? If yes, I would pass. Like Greendesigns said....$300 isn't worth the liability....See Morejemdandy
