Have you tried a Flex~Able Hose or Pocket Hose?

Recently I have seen a new type of garden hose being advertised on television. It is sold under the names Flex~Able Hose and Pocket Hose. Has anyone tried it? Thoughts? Reviews? Ratings?

Those are all such good ideas. I really like the basket idea. We built an upside-down, L shaped holder out of 4 X 4 - about 4 feet off the ground after sinking it, and an 'arm' about 1 1/2 feet long, screwed on at a right angle. We screwed a home-plate shaped wood front onto the end of it, which holds the hose from falling off. You wind the hose up clockwise or counterclockwise in large loops. What I really like about this is that the hose gets loosened up and is easier to handle - bringing it off the arm and pulling it across the yard, for example. Also, you can place your wood hose holder away from your spiggot and closer to the front of a flower bed, and have easy access to the hose. It really helps relieve back strain and shoulder pain.

Do we all have a love/hate relationship with hoses? LOL! What would we do without them, but they really can be a pain. I have both. We invested in multiple 50' heavy rubber hoses years ago and they have been great. We stretch a couple out permanently during the season through shrubs to where we need them so we don't have to continually drag them around. The others we do have to drag around and put back into place when done. The issue I have with these huge hoses is they do take a lot of space when they're coiled up and they are SO heavy. I do like the flexable hoses because they are so light they are just tons easier for hand watering and when I'm done I hide them in my potting bench. They shrivel up to nothing. I mentioned in an earlier post that we don't have the greatest of water pressure which is why I probably haven't had any issues with them bursting or failing. Maybe folks who have great water pressure would be best to turn on the spigot halfway to see how it goes. I do find the spray goes quite far even w/o good pressure.

We purchased the plain green plastic ones at Lowe's. Inexpensive and unobtrusive. Because they are so inexpensive, we can get a lot and put them right where we need them. I saw some beauties in a catalog and almost bought them but they were sold out. I would eventually like to replace them with decorative ones, but haven't seen any others I want to spend the money on yet. chezmoose...would love to see a photo of your permanent sprinkler setups. Does the overhead watering in the vegetable garden cause foliar diseases for any of your veggies? Squashes and cukes, and tomatoes? I would love to set up this type of system, but I always hold back because I don't want to fight more foliar diseases. pm2

Leak in faucet hose: replace hose or faucet?

If you need an excuse to replace the faucet, now's the time. Go for it! I have no experience with pull down spouts/sprays, metal spray hoses or how long they last. I've always had a separate spray with a plastic hose and they last perhaps 6 to 9 years with my use. They are not that hard to replace and can be found in any hardware store. I'd think that any hose, plastic or metal that is pulled and moved and rubbed by the guide/opening will eventually leak. The flexible hoses under the sink that connect the faucet to the supply last much longer because there is no movement or abrasion. These, of course, should always be metal, since the plastic ones can burst unexpectedly when they are under constant pressure. For the faucet spray, the hose is only under pressure when the faucet is on.

I will say two things:

1) I have learned that any rule about a hose's effectiveness goes out the window under the hot Florida sun. My expensive 'kinkless' hose developed many kinks around July of last year after the sun had time to soften it up.

2) The fact that the Flex-Able hose website tried to stop me from leaving their site when I hit the back button just set off all kinds of warning feelings inside my geeky body.

Agree again with Leekle. Reputable companies with reliable products don't have to resort to such measures.
That said, my friend bought this hose. Her biggest complaint is a huge loss of water pressure. Since my water pressure isn't that great to begin with, I won't bother trying it.
PS. I had the same loss-of-pressure experience with a coil hose.

Concept looks great. Likely to be a cheap China deal and won't last. I do a lot of hand watering so I can use up a hose. But I only pay once. Buy a lifetime from Home Depot or Lowes and when they fail bring them back. Never been a problem. Still if I could get a high quality pocket hose....

I saw one in CVS. It looks really flimsy. I was wanting one when I saw the commercial! Very thin cloth material. Very expensive for just 25 ft. of hose.

Sure looks like a gimmick.

If anyone is interested I do have a hose that honestly has been impressive for not kinking, I've owned two of these 75 footers for five years now and I can't say anything bad about them. You know that old adage, you get what you pay for....
