Treefrog answered the questions perfectly! The drench (simply a mix you make in a watering can and pour on the roots) is available as Bayer Tree and Shrub, at HD. It is not labeled for citrus. If you want to spend big $$$, go for Bayer Admire Pro, which is the same product, but is labeled for Citrus. It is what the pros use. You will need to buy it from a commercial chemical supply house. I had to go to Delray to get mine. I have used both products, with excellent results. This is a once a yesr treatment, instead of a gazillion sprayings! The systemic works against insects that feed on/damage leaves. It will cost about $20 a tree, using the Bayer Tree and Shrub drench. Used as a drench, on the roots, Imidacloprid is harmless to bees. It also protects against citrus greening, and invigorates the trees, making them be able to use the available fertilizers more efficiently. Granular, or organic (aged manure) fertilizers are much better than those "spikes." If you want beautiful Citrus trees that are healthy and produce well, I highly recommend a safe systemic like Admire Pro. Trying to spray all year for multiple problems is just too much work, often ineffective, and dangerous to the good insects and to us. I don't have positive results with the oil sprays on Citrus. They can cause massive defoliation. Never, ever use oil sprays in hot weather. They are best used in winter. A spray I do like is the Citrus nutritional spray. It provides micronutrients. I've been waging war on these guys for years. My Squirrel and Green TF population has been steadily decreasing for a long time. Leopard frog too. But just recently I almost dispatched the wrong frog. Late one night a couple of treefrogs almost leapt into the net, I popped them into a bin to be dealt with the next morning. In the light of day I discovered a pair of green and very indignant Barking Treefrogs, I turned them loose by one of the ponds. In the dark the pair had looked like warty Ctf's. The Barking TF has a granular look and grows to 2+ inches, I had not paid attention to the spotty pattern on their backs or their color as they were under the blue mossie zapper light and I had been very tired. I've since been told the Barking TF is slower and easier to catch. DC? Your frog looks rather like a Pine Woods Treefrog, it's hard to tell if his back is smooth. Good to know, Tree...in case I can't bring it in sometime. But just to be safe this time, I brought in all of mine. We are right on the "hard freeze" line that says the freeze will last 8 or more hours to the west, and 6 or less to the east. I'm JUST on the east side, but if it actually stays below freezing even the six hours, that's a long time for plants. And I would CRY if I lost the plant you gave me, so it is now safely tucked into a corner of my garage until we get through this. You stay warm down there, too, Tree! See ya when the sun comes back!
