Bunch of goldfinches

dghays

Woke up this morning to a large group of goldfinches, over a dozen to a dozen and a half, mostly hanging around my sunflower feeder at my sugar apple tree and birdbath. They seemed to be eating sunflower seeds which I found surprising for a small bird. They were in winter plumage, but had the defined white and black wing stripes, so I hope I couldn't have mis-identified them. Also saw my usual painted bunting couple, which I also saw yesterday morning feeding apparently on red salvia seeds, right from the plant.

One neat thing I found and mounted a couple weeks ago was a feeder which sticks right to your window, so you get the prime view of small birds when they get used to it. Mine apparently are, because it is starting to empty quickly.

Happy birding,

Gary
