Cassius Bicapsularis dropping all of its leaves!
Comments (3)It's Plumbago, a tropical plant... were you told not to water unless it was bone dry? If it does have mildew, it could have come home with it (cool greenhouses are more likely to do that than your set-up), though if that's what is going on is true - p.m. is usually visible on the soil, and if you're seeing vague whitish stain-looking things on the leaves, that could just be from the hard water they used at the nursery....See MoreIs my cassia a dud?
Comments (3)> Posted by irma_stpete > Leaves... pairs of 4 or 3 > which is mine? I question the accuracy of that UF information about the leaves. In any case we do not need it, because you mentioned : > In summer had... flowers which means not bicapsularis. > not enough sun? The 4-hr probably is a limiting factor; nevertheless your plant is not doing badlly. Mine, which gets longer sun, did not flower until taller than 5'. No pods came. Pods the following year (2013 end), at which time the height was 8'. Yesterday I picked two of the four. Brown, and slight splitting when squeezed. The seeds' greenness and moistness give me to think that they are immature. I would appreciate confirmation or contradiction by someone who knows the appearance of mature pendula seeds.....See MoreCassia Leptophylla Leaves All Turned Black
Comments (2)a hard frost would typically 'burn' the emerging shoots as they haven't hardened off, did you see any other damage appear at the same time in your garden? The Leptophylla is typically semi-deciduous as is originates from a more temperate climate. It should recover as long as it holds the portions of the foliage that are hardened off....See MoreRooting Cassia bicapsularis (Christmas cassia)
Comments (20)Mine has never ever self seeded. New trunks only come from the base. The branches on my S. capsularis also grow horizontally! current pic. lateral & sprawling. current pic. the grass plant started blooming purple plumes at the same time as S. Capsularis. beautiful! A few years ago, it was shapes like an upright water fountain. I could literally walk underneath it. old pic. quarterly pruned to get a fountain shape 2013 old pic. Heavy pruning to get a fountain shape 2013 Hurrican Matthew took down more than half it because a carpenter ant nest had loosened the soil at the base. Wind cracked roots in half. Matthew also took the white wooden picket fence too. So, Now I'm letting her grow like crazy to reestablish strong center stalks. In a few months, Ill do a hard prune, removing anything lower than 6 feet which grows lateral, to get back to fountain shape. Sorry to gush. I'm sure you can tell she's my absolute favorite! I await her November blooms every year. Tell me about yours :)...See Moreteeka0801(7aNoVa)
