I just love the asiatic lilies, 175, whew, you will be busy, but it will be stunning.

Cindy, you know me. I get carried away with myself and have no stopping power. But seriously, I have been thinking of doing this for the past two years. So the time is right now to get it done.

So, if you are planting these bulbs this spring, will they also bloom THIS spring too?? I love them asiatic lilies.They are so pretty.

It's gonna be a really big show! I have a few orientals planted between my daylilies, but you are right. The asiatics would probably be better to extend the season. Planting them in the spring though, they may not bloom as early this year as they will next year. I like lilies, & asiatics have some really neat patterns. Hummmm, I have pixie lilies that I need to divide this fall, maybe I should mix them in with the daylilies. I should measure & make sure they will be tall enough to be seen though. Great idea Rita!

Here is how I ordered the lillies. I did not go and pick pretty lillies, put them in my shopping cart and then think I will just plant them in the daylily gardens. That would not have worked. Instead I have planned out exactly were the lilies will be added and I knew what heights I needed for these predetermined spots. Then I went and looked at lillies and heights until I found what should work for what I plan to do. I was not even satisfied just looking at the heights listed were I bought as they are often wrong. I looked heights on the internet to recheck them before I bought. It honestly took me hours to pick out exactly what would work and finialize my order.

Last night when I went to bed I did think of the fact that first year spring planted lillies like these usually bloom later than they will next year. My lilies that are here are up all over the garden and these have yet to be planted. So I expect you are right, Nancy in that my bloom sequence will probably not work out perfectly this year. But there is always next year.

Besides one of the places I ordered from, Sunshine, is one of those pre-cooled bulb dealers and those must be planted in the spring as the bulbs feel they have already been thru the winter. No big deal, I have planted pre-cooled lilies before. You just can't plant pre-cooled in the fall.

I like oriental lillies too and just this spring put in a grouping of 40 of them in the way front yard. I might get more, but not right now.

Jean, they will all bloom this year but get a later start than ones that are already in the garden and have been already growing now this spring.

I was out for a while today and when I came back the lily bulbs were here. I have opened the boxes and looked to see bags with peat and lilies in them but thats as far as I got so far. I sure do have a lot of lillies to plant.

Wow,Thats a lot of planting for you to get done, b ut, will be so pretty when they bloom.The ones you called BLACK BIRD, are they Black blooms?

Jean, no they are red but should be a deep red black red instead of a lighter red. I happen to be very fond of that color tone. I have some of the red black roses and I just love them. Plus I love the Red Alert lilies which are also that smokey red. So when I saw these I decided to get some.

I didn't even start on the lily bulbs today. Didn't yet open the packages they are in. I hope tomorrows a nice day as I have lots to do out in the garden.

Well, I planted other things over the weekend but I started on my lily bulbs first thing today. I have 125 of them planted which is all the 5 grouping of 25 each indivual ones. The ones left to plant are the 50 mixed colors Asiatics which I am going to be planting in the upstairs daylily bed. This year its the Snapdragon bed as I put snapdragons between some of the daylilies. Had room to do so as I had moved afew daylilies of of there last fall and this spring. This is the bed with mostly the Korth daylilies.

At any rate, never mind my rambling. I have plenty of time to get the rest planted today but am so stiff and ackey that I don't know if I want to start there. I need to finish once I start there as I intend to first set out all the bulbs and them go around and plant them. I might just do some odds and ends of other garden chores and planting the rest of this afternoon instead.

The BLACKOUT lilies that I just planted were pretty much sprouted so I had to be careful planting. All the others so far were really good as they had not oversprouted. Makes it easier when they haven't got the long shoots already growing so you have to be careful not to break them. But of course it means they come up even faster if they are growing already.

Go Rita! !!! That will be absolutely loverly. But where will you put that many? I know you have it all planned out, but wow! 175 more just in the daylilies? I have a few I am getting to add to the rose garden, but no way could I get anything in that daylily bed.

If everything goes according to plan, DD will close on a house Friday...and she is casting a covetous eye on my gardens. That's okay, since I will have to divide daylilies and iris this year. And I have a few other perennials that could stand thinning out.

I have already told her that any roses that aren't doing what I want can come live with her, so she will be fine and I will have a little room.

Rita, my daylilies are like a jungle. I will take a picture tomorrow and let you see.

I didn't plant the last which are the 50 mixed colors asiatic collection. I intend to do it tomorrow. So far I have managed to fit everything and I am sure I will manage tomorrow too. I am thinking this shoould look good but you never know. Won't know for absolutely sure till they bloom and I see it for myself. Plus the sequence of bloom will be messed up as I am just planting them now and all my other lilies have been up for weeks now and some are quite tall already.

Oh, you will have lots of daylilies and Iris to divide and give your daughter for her gardens at her new home. Can't think of anything better than to be able to share so that there can be another lovely garden created. She is lucky you have such a great garden.

And her price will be right too! My lilies are up pretty well, and a lot of them are budded, but I still have a few I want to get.

I love lilies. They take up less room than daylilies. Well, usually they do. Some lilies, like my SILK ROADs are going to be whoppers this year.

Jean- These lily bulbs I was planting are all on the small side so far. I only planted them about 4 inches deep. I figgured that was enough.

That went well. I did the rest of the lily bulbs today. It was the 50 mixed colors Asiatic collection. Easier than I thought and I think it is going to look great. First I just placed all the bulbs around in that daylily area. I put them one in a spot but there might be others fairly closely. So it is not like in between the two sections of new daylily gardens (I did last year) were I put the bulbs closely together en mass. But its more like the other two beds were I just put them in between. But those were in rows sorta, and these are not. Not that easy to explain but I am sure it will make sense after they grow and bloom later so I can take pictures.
