You bet Tman...I'm suffering lyrocicis also. I love the happy beat of this Christmas song. Everytime I hear it I'm humming the tune for hours.

What's stuck in my head??? Every freeking song in the grocery stores, etc!!! There I am happy singing along...people give me sidewides smiles - hmmmmm....that's probably not good. A couple of weeks ago I went to the LCBO(liquor store, in Ontario) and picked up some good stuff from the Vintages section(this is where they put what the consider the good stuff). Happy singing,(OK. maybe not quite to myself), an employee came after me - Mammm, MAMMMM. Trying to be of good cheer, I said, OK, I'll stop singing... ha-ha... No,no said he, you are about to smash a bunch of the good stuff!!! Yikes, I had this child friendly shopping cart, and the 'leg holes' were open. Accckkkk. Anyways, nice guy who steered me to something that would hopefully impress the family. Pretty sure I was grooving to the "Little old St. Nick"

Well, I never had a name for the affliction - until now - and while I hadn't caught it yet this year, after reading this thread I've definitely got a bad case of cranial lyricosis now! Thanks, y'all! :o)

Right now the Charlie Brown Christmas theme is humming in my cranium but "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" is trying to drown it out ......(insert frightened face) !

I'd like to volunteer to be the first to undergo the Famous cutting edge Thinman Cranial Lyricosis-ectomy as soon as the season is over. TYIA.

I'm very much afraid that you have malignant cranial lyricosis, and you need to seek competent treatment immediately. Libby, with those chipmunks in your head, you may be in this category too. Please get it checked out.

And Nancy, you seem to have cranial polylyricosis, a seldom seen variant of the condition. Is there any history of schizophrenia in your family?

Schoolhouse, Cameron, Zigzag, and Nell - I think we all have the benign form of the disease, (unless you hate Ray Stevens, Nell). The benign form only inflicts pain on nearby friends and family members and is usually self-limiting.

The Knife singing "Christmas Reindeer," but then I have it repeating on my iPod, so it's my own fault. I avoid most shops from Halloween to New Year's and I rarely listen to the radio unless I'm at work, so I've been blessedly free of cranial lyricosis. Unless that stupid new Spears song counts. We have satellite radio at work and invariably someone will put it on a station that seems to play 3 songs repeatedly. Hmm...bitterness and anger. Warning signs of early onset cranial lyricosis?

Anyway, here's a link for my favorite song for this year. If you play it, you might have to hit play after each stanza, which is annoying.

Haven't got in the groove yet, when I think Burl Ives, Blue Tail Fly is all that comes to mind. Just about finished the Christmas shopping which has been difficult because of the weather this year so maybe when the tree goes up tomorrow Annette will get her groove back.
I have to say though 'White Christmas' is one of my favorites and I'm once again looking forward to watching Holiday Inn while snacking on a cold turkey sandwich with a couple of pickled onions done up in malt vinegar on Boxing Day night, it's a tradition with me. I think I like this almost more than Christmas dinner :o).

It's good to hear from you, Kent. I'm a little bit afraid to follow your link to The Knife. A creepy reindeer song may not be exactly what I need to hear right now. I'm glad you're still checking in from time to time.

Annette, I hear you about not being in the groove. It seems to get harder to find that groove as the years roll by. I'm not sure why that should be so, but it has been working that way for me. Our tree is waiting to be put up too, and I think tomorrow will be the day. It was going to be today, but we are getting a couple of under-the-weather grandsons to take care of in about a half hour, so that plan is probably out. Your cold turkey sandwich sounds fine to me, but I would have to pass on the pickled onions.

My neighbor who is originally from Canada phoned awhile ago to say she just took butter tarts from the oven and to come get some while they were still hot! Mmmmm. She gave me two small homemade fruit cakes, too. It was worth sloshing down the rainy and icey road. All three of my dogs were at the big library window watching me go. Should have had a camera.

TM - my latin is no longer that good.....no schizophrenia, however: I remember a comedian, part of whose routine was about families. He said, every family has a creepy uncle, or a weird cousin.....and if you can't think of someone who fits this description in your family...you're it!!! 'nuff said!!

I like that term, ThinMan. At some point in the future I'll probably be thinking that cranial lyricosis is the actual name for it, completely forgetting that it was invented.

No cranial lyricosis this week, but last week I had one that lasted about three days ohmygosh it was terrible. I'm not going to tell you what it was because mercifully I can't recall and don't want to.

I love Burl Ives. My parents had all his albums and I grew up listening to his folk songs and ballads. He was quite the troubadour. He was also very good as "Big Daddy",in one of my favorite movies "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof".

I jokingly starting singing that to my DH on the way to the car the other evening (while large flakes were floating down) and a unseen lady behind us started laughing and sang back..."let it blow, let it blow, let it blow..."

To explain a little, over the past week we have had a snow storm every other day, 6 inches, 10+ inches and then 3-4 inches. And the forecast for today was for 30 mph winds dropping temps into the -25 to -35 range.

I have been mercifully free of cranial lyricosis this year so far - probably because the mess around the house has been so great I've hardly listened to my Christmas music. Now you're all giving me reasons to get infected as well, just great, LOL.

Schoolhouse, I don't exactly know what a butter tart is, but going by just the name, they must be delicious. We've had a neighbor drop off her homemade chocolate covered toffee, and another a loaf of banana-nut bread. Both are very tasty indeed. Your dogs must have been a hoot. I can just see them in my mind.

Patti, a three day case of CL sounds a lot like a bad migraine, except you can still function and there's no medication for it. (I suppose self-medication is always an option.)

Mary Lu, your weather sounds like our weather, though maybe colder. The ski hill owners are loving it, though. It's good to hear from you.

Eduarda, it sounds like your house is still infested with masons and other assorted workers. Isn't there some kind of spray for that? Thank you for mentioning James Taylor's album. I had forgotten about it and I need to get it playing immediately before I run out of season.

TM, you don't know what butter tarts are? Vision a flaky tart shell with a filling of currants/raisins, walnuts/pecans depending on what I have handy, brown sugar, beaten egg, pinch of salt a smidge of cream and of course butter (my version of a butter tart) YUMMY!!!
