I am ashamed to show you this

but...I don't see any other way. Last spring I started a whole bunch of clems. They barely did much of anything. This year is a different story. I never expected they would grow this high. I have spent many hours unwinding them (I think they were choking themselves) and putting them up on training wire. The first one hasn't any buds yet. The second is a jackmani, the 3rd I have no Idea, the 4th no buds yet and the 5th I have know Idea what it is either.

I thought the 3rd was a ramona or E.F. Young but the middle is totally creme colored. The 5th is a deep deep purple with a purple middle. The color shows better from the embarassing long distance pic. Believe it or not it looks a lot better in person. 4 more are coming up at different areas of the yard. They died and miraculously appeared this year. God knows what they are. Anyway I will swallow my pride and see if any of you have an Idea what they could be. Thanks, Donna

I'm sorry, I've no idea what those are, but your house has brown shingles just like mine (yours look a little better like you've only used stain whereas I have brown paint over green and some have weathered back to the original beige color). My trim is white, too.

I am not sure what #1 or #3 is but #2 looks like my Proteus when it puts on a single bloom. Proteus has a double bloom on old wood. But anyways thats my guess on your 2nd shot - and I dont know what your ashamed of - they look nice to me. Heres a picture of my proteus - looks pretty much like yours dont you think??

DH decreeded it was time to either make stuff or pass it along to someone who would use it. Okay to save domestic tranquility I had a clean out the shop yard sale on a lovely Sat morning. I just put up 2 signs then went home. I hauled out sevearal bedsteads, some counter tops with and without sinks a toilet 6 bowling balls, trampoline piping like I made my trellis with and lots of other things junk and decor and camping plus clothing and if you can name it and it weren't in the pile it was in the attic. I had been home and hauling about 10 minutes when I heard cars pulling up doors opening and closing and peolpe talking. I walked to the front of the house in the drive way were several good folk looking at all the STUFF and they were just so ecstatic. There were comments like "Oh this will be a beautiful bench." and "Honey look I can finally make those gazing balls I showed you on that web site." and "WOW this is just what I need to make my potting bench." I have a yard full of benches, gazing balls and Lovely Junque Art made from cast off items and reclaimed junk freecycled TSed and curb shopped. I made my heart sing to hear the enthusiasm from these guys and gals tyo make nice stuff from all the junk I had collected over the years and could not use soon enough. I hope to be seeimg new GARDEN JUNQUE in my area real soon. CY

Frank1 your nursery person is definitely right in that you do! have to be very! careful in using even packaged manure...It will burn young roses unless there is a significant buffer several inches between the manure and the roots...and even when I do the manure I have to spread enough distance between them and the plant because I have read on this forum that manure placed too close to the rose can cause canker...Most importantly, all manure has to be properly processed or else there's tons of bad things that live in manure...For example a lot of puppies raised in farms have to be de-wormed...and we're not talking about the good worms but the very!!!!! bad kind of worms--hookworms, roundworms etc...it's because the puppies are exposed to contaminated grounds...Even my poor Eluane came from an absolutely horrid, irresponsible breeder (Nightshades Ranch-they breed horses and border collies)and Eluane had 4 kinds of infections because they didn't do their vaccinations and deworming... Ironically the breeder had very high ratings on Puppyfinder which is why I trusted them at the time... Greenhaven,your idea is very creative and would be a terrific idea in theory, except for one thing--- actually decaff is not good for plants and humans, the reason why is because a lot of chemicals are used in the processing to isolate/remove the caffeine from the coffee beans...hehe, hillbilly, that's funny! and no, hillbilly is much more acceptable than prissy/neurotic-- at least hillbillies don't drive people crazy like neurotics do, hahahahaha! Wow, Lucretia! kudos to your coffee bar...I am amazed that they are so environmentally conscious! where in the Pacific Northwest are you exactly! Wow! Now I need to go to my local Starbucks and check out whether they do this... so anyone use any well-reputed brand-packed stuff? by the way? stuff that is certifiably processed? I just found out that my local garden center has a local brand, but I am nervous, because I want a guarantee that the stuff has been properly processed...

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I came home early today cause I was soo worried about dd. She is 18. Pdg love the orni's they didn't have any of those they are perfect. Luvs your right!!! I love Ashville even though it was very cold. And I'm not a mall person. So what else was there to do??!! It's to cold to walk around the Biltmore.. The little Biltmore shops have changed alot since our last visit. They had really bad flooding a couple of years ago so alot had to be rebuilt. But there is a wonderful Christmas shop.... lots of ideas we can do for cheaper.

I have a pretty small house overall myself. And being built in 1931 back when people seemed to own one change of clothes and one coat, there are no closets and what few closets I do have, are tiny!! I have to keep my clothes in another room because my master bedroom closet is tinier than tiny! Keep the ideas coming! There's no worries about anyone "stealing" my thread! Storage ideas for one person can be adapted by everyone, so all discussions are welcome! I'm getting some great ideas I never would have thought of. I think I'm going to use the back of the kitchen door leading to the basement for storage as well. And I have to organize that "landing". I have a big box of cat food and litter, all the paper bags for recycling and plastic grocery bags as well, all the mops and coats ontop of the rest of the mess. You can barely get by to get up and down the stairs. I wish I had a place to keep my recycling bin in the kitchen. We have it out on our 3-season porch right off the kitchen so it's not bad, but I'd rather keep the porch less cluttered and not have to go out there when it's freezing winter to toss things. Recycling tends to collect on the one tiny piece of counter I have next to my stove as it's closest to the back door until it's falling all over the place before anyone will walk the 4 feet to the door to put it in the bin!! I did take some time this weekend to pull some things out of the backs of the cabinets and rearrange now that I freed up all the space by hanging all the pots and pans and lids. I now have easy access to all my French White casserole dishes in one place, on one shelf. Then I have all my 13 x 9 pans and cake/tart pans together. Right next to the stove I put all my old casserole dishes - the pyrex & Fire King stuff. That freed up space to have all my small serving dishes and trays/platters on another shelf, then I have all the bowls I use for dips and things when I have company and the bowls for the popcorn on another. I will still have to crawl in back of the cabinets for a few things, but those are things I only use a few times per year like my crockpot or the hand crank pasta machine. I do need to figure out what to do with my "machinery". The KA mixer, blender, espresso machine, pasta maker, etc. I just spent a small fortune because I'm cleaning and painting my son's room and I had to get him new furniture and a computer desk and I'm about to start a bathroom remodel as well, but I really could use a new cabinet for under the window in the kitchen that overlooks the back porch. I have one of those build it yourself partical board bookcases there now, but something nicer and with doors so the mess isn't open to the public would be better. I need to take some pictures and load them up so I can post them as well. I'm very visual - I learn by seeing way better than reading descriptions, so pics are great! Lisa

That is the garage with a small room on the side. That's where those windows are. The house is the same brown shingles and white trim. This house was built in 1863. Good ole New England.

Golden, that's beautiful. Do they mislabel clematis? It looks so much like mine but I know I didn't buy one with that name. Gee, I'm so disorganized that maybe I did and I don't remember. Thanks.

Well I bought a clem with a tag Blue ravine and it is definately not Blue ravine - I am sure its H.F. Young. So yes they do get mislabeled and I have also seen alot of others on this forum with mislabeled clems. Ive gotten myself a binder and I put all my garden tags inside - sort of made myself a journal. Other wise I wouldnt remember either - heck I cant remember last week - lol. Golden

I think I fell in love with the New England shingled homes when I visited Cape Cod as a child. Mine was built in 1931 and is probably what is known as a Craftsman Bungalow, maybe it was a kit home.

Mine needs painted which I should have done first, but if and when it ever gets done and the plants near the house and garage don't get ruined, it will make a nice background for flowers.

That was the first thing I noticed about your house, how nice the flowers look against the wall and the similarity to mine, but yours in much older which may add to its charm. A room off the garage would be wonderful!

Im not sure which one you think is asao - but I dont think its the light lilacy colored one - Asao is a pinky / white clem - take a look at the attached link Golden http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=34

Yup, your right. I have been looking everywhere for the deep purple with purple center and can't find it. Oh well, I'll keep looking. thank you all.

Does the Clematis name "The President" sound familiar?..The first one looks like it and the second one is definitely Clematis "Proteus"..please check out my link for comparison...Jeanne
