Ken, it has its own ENTRY in the MYHOSTAS.BE site. I discovered it from the Brother Stefan page, where the progeny are shown. Step Brother is listed there, no others. So when my Brother Stefan produced this eye which is solid green, I was wondering if what I have is known as Step Brother. The "gg" is used at the MYHOSTAS.BE site and I assumed it meant an all green sport of a hosta with colored margins....(i.e., Brother Stefan). I kind of like having my hosta multiply this way! :) Thanks, Ken.

Blue Shadows is a beautiful plant and will tolerate full sun...in fact, it will grow much fatser in full sun. However, the coloration in full sun (pretty much all green) is not nearly as nice as in shade. So if you get it, you may want to grow it in full sun for 2 or 3 years until it gets some size and then transplant it to a shady spot. Also, Blue Shadows is a med. size plant, whereas Brother Stefan is a large.

These two plants are in my top 20 at least. I passed up Brother Stefan for a couple years because I think I read it was difficult to grow. I found it at a local nursery (rare to find newer hostas locally). It was inexpensive so I thought I'd take a chance. It has grown amazingly well and though it is certainly similar to Paradigm, it might just be my favorite. I thought I'd do a photo comparison. These plants are grown in nearly identical conditions - about 20 feet apart. They get sun from around noon to evening. There are times during the afternoon when the sun is behind a tree so it's not constant. Paradigm is a little more exposed to the west so it gets sun an hour or so longer than Brother Stefan but it's pretty close. Below are pictures comparing them through the summer into fall. The third picture of Paradigm was from 2010. The biggest difference beside the fact that Brother Stefan probably grew faster (notice the year they were purchased) is that Brother Stefan has a wider margin with more feathering and more contrast with the center. Paradigm has a bit of a shine to the leaf.

After long deliberation we have figured out what it was. The person who i got it from mistakenly called it Brother Stephan but it’s actually Captain Kirk sported. From what Ive been told it sported into “Beam me up Scotty”. It’s been about 4 years and I gave a piece to a friend and it’s still staying true to its sport. Thanks for all your comments
