Looks like a great haul, delta! I'm not in the plate flower mode yet ... but I have stashed up abit on broken pottery, vases & such for some mosaicing or totems...that may happen in the future someday. "GoodWill" toward men! Jeanne S.

Hey Dave sorry to hear you've caught the bug. I know only too well how it takes over you life. I love to do mosaics, but it is sooo easy to get distracted with garden totems, bb's and all the beautiful junkin. It's so addicting to created something beautiful out of bits and pieces. Now Go and create some flowers please. We want to see.

Welcome to the group, delta9dave! I don't even have a garden and I am addicted! There isn't a secret handshake or decoder ring that I am aware of but a right of passage is the Secret Santa exchange that Kirk and his wife Carol handle. You can read more about it by following the link below. That way you can unload some of your finds on fellow junkers or make something out of junk for them.

Some things to be aware of as a new "Junker":

Curb side "sales" like pattico mentioned. You will find yourself screeching to a halt when you see piles of stuff in with someone's garbage. You will marvel at the stuff that people will throw out. I hope you own a truck or van or at least a car with a large trunk!

Besides Goodwill there are also places like Salvation Army, Purple Heart, St. Vincent DePaul, Habitat for Humanity Restore and USA Family Thrift ... to name a few. I better not forget thrift shops run by local churches too.

You will find that your eyes light up and your foot will automatically hit the brake pedal when you see a sign saying rummage-garage-yard sale. You will get even more excited if you see glass twinkling in the sunlight in someone's yard or driveway!

Your friends and family may help with your addiction by unloading unwanted items on your doorstep. They might bring over a box of glass items to see if there is anything you can use. Or if you are lucky, they might like shopping thrift stores and rummage sales too and pick up things they "just knew you could use."

They only secret handshake I know of is the grab and run. and pay of course if you just have to. I went down the street Friday when they had the trash out praying I would not find any stuff...cause I am stuffed here in my storage. Need to use it first. I have to say it has been 2 weeks since I curb shopped and grabbed an old in pieces baby bed for the slats and doweling and another place a cardboard box that may have been a box for doll clothes...two weeks before that it was an old chair tossed out for the dowels.

DH decreeded it was time to either make stuff or pass it along to someone who would use it. Okay to save domestic tranquility I had a clean out the shop yard sale on a lovely Sat morning. I just put up 2 signs then went home. I hauled out sevearal bedsteads, some counter tops with and without sinks a toilet 6 bowling balls, trampoline piping like I made my trellis with and lots of other things junk and decor and camping plus clothing and if you can name it and it weren't in the pile it was in the attic. I had been home and hauling about 10 minutes when I heard cars pulling up doors opening and closing and peolpe talking. I walked to the front of the house in the drive way were several good folk looking at all the STUFF and they were just so ecstatic. There were comments like "Oh this will be a beautiful bench." and "Honey look I can finally make those gazing balls I showed you on that web site." and "WOW this is just what I need to make my potting bench." I have a yard full of benches, gazing balls and Lovely Junque Art made from cast off items and reclaimed junk freecycled TSed and curb shopped. I made my heart sing to hear the enthusiasm from these guys and gals tyo make nice stuff from all the junk I had collected over the years and could not use soon enough. I hope to be seeimg new GARDEN JUNQUE in my area real soon.

Delta, I'm so sorry we have been such a bad influence on you. There's no decoder ring that I know of, but I have an idea. Send all those items to me. Out of sight, out of mind. Right? Then you can go back to your safe and sane way of life. See what an easy solution that would be? I hate to be the one to cure you, but somebody's gotta do it!!!!

I originally posted this thread as a joke, but as soon as I hit the "submit message" buton it occured to me that this forum might actually be some sort of group therapy thing. In the future I will act accordingly.

Hi Dave! Welcome to the forum! I posted the origianl post last year on dish flowers when I saw them at a Christmas craft fair. Don't worry about being a guy and buying dishes for the flowers. I tell EVERYONE I make them! The local Goodwill and thrift shops actually put things aside for my wife and me. Isn't this forum the BEST?! I have gotten so many ideas and so much encouragement from the ladies (and the few guys) on the forum! The forum is like family! :o)

When I saw the title of your post, I was a bit nervous and protective... I thought someone was complaining and attacking my friends on the forum! LOL I was ready to defend my friends! LOL
