Hi Bonnie, I just joined the forum this evening. I am heartbroken for you. I had been excited early spring to see my Crocosmia had babies coming up. I thought about moving them, but decided to wait. The flower bed is by the curb. I noticed that the mother plant was missing a few weeks later. I couldn't believe someone would steal a plant out of the ground! Well, I figured out what happened when the crew came to paint the fire hydrant in our yard. The three young men parked right in front of the planted area, when they could have parked a little ways down and avoided it. They threw the hose down right on my perennial geraniums, and one guy stood right on my Crocosmia babies! He must have killed the mother plant when they put the primer on the hydrant, and took it away thinking I wouldn't notice. I walked over and asked him to please stand on the stone slab that marked the path, which was right next to the plant. He wasn't happy about it, but he stood with one foot on the slab, and the other on the curb. I sat on the porch until they left, and then called the city. I told the lady there that I realize it's city property, and was a little inconvenient for the paint crew, but the path was right next to the plant, and they could be more considerate of the plants. I was pleased she agreed and was going to have the crew be asked to watch out for plants. I guess I was fortunate it was only one plant, and I still have part of it. Thanks, everyone! I love sharing this stuff with you. Have you designed a project for a larger hooked rug yet? With your new frame how large of a rug can you create? One of my first hooked projects 20+ years ago was a small rug I designed. Then later I bought a pattern that appealed to me and hooked that. I think both still need to be bound and finished (procrastinating about this step is a problem common to many rug hookers). Currently, the two projects I have lined up are a chair seat (I have five but need one more) and a new cover for my footstool. My new frame (which should arrive in less than two weeks) is the same size as my old one, but both can accommodate any size project, as you just lift the rug up and move it to work on different sections. Here's a story for you: Last night I was trying to come up with a design idea for the hooked chair seat. I looked through one of my books on rug hooking, and got nowhere with that. Then I reached for a book on folk art, thinking as I did so that it had been years since I'd opened it. Inside the front cover I found cut-out patterns my daughter Jill and I had drawn for a quilted table runner I made years ago. I didn't use the horse she drew at the time, but there it was, a perfect size for the chair seat. I feel that I was guided to open that book. Here's a picture of the pattern I drew on the linen burlap last night. I'll do some sort of design in the outer border. Now all I have to do is pick which wools I'm going to use. It's like coloring. :-)

Judy Jay Rhiannon is the name of a Celtic spirit and we got it from the Fleetwood mac song Rhiannon. It is pronounced Ree-an-non. DH and I were teachers at the time and that was one of the few names we could come up with that didn't bring up memories of other kids. Nicole, Peyton might look older but she is such a munchkin, she only weighs 25 pounds at 2 and a half. She is just a minature little munchkin. Oiling -- depends. Many newer fans are made with sealed bearings. However we have a 27 year old HUNTER brass fan with wooden panels. We check the oil (it is seldom low) and only add Hunter fan oil (very refined, light oil) as needed. The Hunter Fan Co. Has been helpful and responsive on the few occasions when I've wanted information. Our fan runs all day every day. AND, it was a store demo fan that I begged the folks at Lechmere Sales (anyone temember them from way back?) to let me buy. If the fan was a cheap fan w bushings, you might want to replace it. But it it is a well made (they're usually heavy) fan with brass bearings, call the manufacturer's tech support. Tim? How's it going? What happened?

Oh, my goodness!! That's the prettiest dianthus I've ever seen. This is my first year of WS and I ordered several varieties of dianthus and sweet williams from Parks and Thompson Morgan, but have never seen this variety. Thank you so much for sharing this beauty! Do you mind sharing your source for this flower? Thanks again.

Karen - that is just stunning - great photo. I have 6 WSown plants and none are in bloom yet - can't wait to see them now - what a treat I have ahead of me. I just love Dianthus - thanks for sharing.....

Thanks everyone! I think I got the seeds from Parks Seed, but I can't really remember. I will definitely collect any seeds that these guys will make and sow some more this winter and trade for other seeds too, depending on how much I get. These will look really spectacular I think once they go into full bloom.

I found more seeds on eBay from this seller, she still has a limited few packs for auction. Plus I won bids on some rather pretty petunias of hers. I liked her opening bids amounts and her shipping discounts.

Thank you everybody! The camera I use is a Sony Mavica MVC CD-400, given to me and my BF from his mom, it's an older camera at only 4 mega pixel, but I've learned to use it a little better this year, taking lots of pictures of my flowers, especially the daylilies. I use the micro setting on it for all my close-up shots of my flowers. Sometimes I have real steady hands for getting the close-ups really good, other times I'm shaky. Then I touch up the photos a bit in Picasa to get them looking a little more clear and try to get the colors more true, though it doesn't always work. This picture however the camera picked up the colors perfectly with very little touching up. I think I like taking pictures of the flowers as much as growing them!
