Dying Pin Oaks near Bronx Park.

Over the last few years several Pin Oaks have gotten sick and died. The symptoms always follow the same pattern. Dead branches then dead lateral branches followed by dead limbs and finally the entire tree succumbs the process takes about 2 to 3 years.

I've done some searching on the web and the culprit doesn't seem to be "Oak wilt" which kills oaks particularly red oaks (Pin, Willow) very quickly (several weeks to 1 year).

So what is it? Is it the "Two line Chestnut borer"? Or is it something else.

There hasn't been any recent Con Ed/Verizon activity in this area nor has there been any landscaping. So that rules out soil disturbances.

I estimate that this tree has got about a year or two left.
