Holly - I don't have an easy answer for that question. I think there are several really good places. I ordered from several companies for early spring delivery this year, and I ordered some a little later than normal, because there are always roses to be added at the last minute. My first place to reserve roses was Pickering, then they informed me they would not be shipping to the US this year. I had read good things about Palatine, so I gave them a try and have been very pleased, their roses are very vigorous. I also ordered from Edmunds, Witherspoon, Rosemania, Roses Unlimited, Heirloom and Northland. I read the reviews of the different companies on the Garden Watchdog. If they have too many negatives I do not order from them. I think that there are some other really good companies. I tend to prefer grafted roses, but I'm giving own-root a chance and so far I'm pleased. I'll probably be ordering from Pickering again too. I wouldn't say I have a favorite. I think most of the companies we read about on this forum carry a quality product and I don't want to see any more rose nurseries going out of business.

My personal favorites:
Roses Unlimited -- for own-root potted roses (Chamblees is a good choice also). The roses often arrive already blooming and always very healthy.

Pickering or Palatine--Canadian; grafted roses (multiflora). Always healthy bareroots.

Regan Nursery--but only if I can't find what I want at the above places.

Since there is no space left in my yard for new roses, I won't need to check out any other places, but I do want to emphasize that I'm aware that there are other fine place for ordering roses.

I grow only own-root roses so I like Heirloom roses, Roses Unlimited. I just ordered my first rose from the Antique Rose Emporium but will not receive it until next Spring so can not comment on them yet.

I have several good nurseries not too far away from me that carry really nice selections of healthy potted roses. I buy most of my roses from those sources since I like to help support the local guys and prefer to see the rose in bloom before I buy. If I really want a rose and canâÂÂt find it locally, I order bareroot online and have always been happy with the roses and customer service that IâÂÂve receivedâ¦S&W, Regan and Edmunds come to mind, but IâÂÂve probably ordered from others without issue, too. Petals from the Past is a great local grower of OGRs and some of the older modernsâ¦nice 1 gallon plants for $15 each. They do online mail order, but IâÂÂve always gotten mine from them in personâ¦as wonderful as they are to deal with in person, I think they would be a good source to order from, as wellâ¦but I have no first-hand experience with them on that.

I'm with Pat on buying locally, if possible, and I have a wonderful favorite nursery here with a big rose selection. They will special order for me, and offer other services that I like very much. Their roses are grown in five gallon containers. If I can't find what I like locally, some of my favorite online rose retailers are Palatine Roses, Pickering, and Hortico (with some reservations) all in Canada. I have ordered from David Austin and Edmonds in the U.S., and they are ok. These roses are all bare root, of course. Diane

I like Palatine and Pickering for roses such as borderline hardy HTs which need to be grafted in my climate.

For OGRs and climbing roses, I like Northland Rosarium and High Country Roses. Both send out large, healthy and vigorous plants. No need to baby these plants along. Both are located in cold climate areas, Spokane, WA, and Denver CO, respectively, so your plants arrive already acclimatized to cold zone conditions.
