Comments (3)Wynne's Dahlias-- they're great!! Wonderful people who introduce dahlias. They grow about 7,000 plants & bring out new ones every year. You can get to their albums by clicking on View our Picture Gallery - or get the price list or order form by clicking on either of them. They don't have their '09 list up yet but you can get an idea of what they sell by visiting the albums & the price list. Comments (1)Gardino's has great plants and fabulous service! Joni from SRQ Hoyas is great too....although she has been out of stock of quite a few things lately. I like the HomeDepot and Lowe's hoyas as well...it's nice to have a full basket of a beautiful leafed hoya......See MoreYour Favorite place to buy rose bushes
Comments (11)Sue: Rather than looking for one place, I took a different tack and looked for specific roses wherever I went. Example: Most Rugosas will do well in Z5, as will most any own-root roses. How can you tell if you don't know? Look for a graft at the base of the plant -- own roots won't have a graft "ball" and will probably do well. Secondly, know that there Are things you can do to help not-so-hardy roses stay hardy in your area. Look for microclimates in your yard that could handle an iffy plant or two. Climbers, particularly. Plant deep -- no sign of the graft should appear above ground. And finally, "local" has become such a misnomer of late. There are very few retail nurseries that actually grow or graft their own roses, or anything else for that matter. Chances are that they got their roses from the very places one can order through on-line. Don't sacrifice quality for keeping the dollars in town. There's plenty of ways to do that, and roses aren't one of them. That said, there's nothing wrong with hitting the $5 table at Ocean State Job Lot for some Hybrid Teas that you know won't make it :-) If you feel like traveling at all, in East Windsor, CT on Route 140 just off Route 91, Revay's still does a lot of their own roses and sells only things that will be hardy to Zone 5. If you're down this way, shoot me an email and I'll be glad to join you for a visit! Good Luck!!! Martie...See MoreVegetable seedlings NYC: Where are your favorite places to buy?
Comments (15)No, the small trays they had are still larger than the ones in your link. They looked more like 2x2 per cell but definitely not the typical 6 cell. I use those in your link for starting mine but then transplant to 4" pots. Yes, they had lots of hot peppers out! Mostly hot peppers actually. I don't grow hot peppers so can't help you with types they had (other than habanero haha!) but probably 5 or 6 varieties from memory. All the vendors had hot peppers, most had other varieties too. The California Wonder I only saw from the one vendor. If you are familiar with the layout, the seedling vendors all seem to be on the northern leg of the "L" shape market layout- along 17th street. This particular vendor was on the furthest east stand (nearest Park ave) on the side furthest from 17th street. Hope that makes sense. Shouldn't be a problem in any event, lots of them selling today and I imagine more on Friday....See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
