What am I getting into??

As in, what is irritating my skin when I've been gardening?! I always, always wear garden gloves, but at least a dozen times during gardening season I get a massively itchy welt somewhere on my hands. Fingers mostly, but often the palm of my hand. It begins with a small red dot that gradually becomes itchy and almost painful, then the entire affected area turns white and hot. The itchy welt lasts for a couple days and sometimes blisters slightly. There is no poison ivy anywhere that I garden or even nearby. I assume I may be touching some plant or weed in the garden that leaves a residue on my gloves which then gets transferred to my skin when I remove them. I know this isn't a medical forum, but if anyone has an idea of what plant can be causing this contact dermatitis, I'd be grateful. Or suggestions on avoiding it.
