Recessed LED lights... what am I getting for my money?

After looking at 4" recessed options from the likes of Halo at big box retail stores I went to a lighting store today and saw the Nora Iolite line (about $130 per light). Compared to the higher end Halo options they were about twice as much. I have a general idea of what makes them more expensive but not twice as expensive.

Based on my research Nora has:

  • Slightly better looking trim options
  • Adjustable (gimbal) trims on all units
  • Slightly higher CRI (95 vs. 90)
  • Slightly higher Lumens
  • Three reflector options (small reflector inserts) for beam width/angle whereas only one option per trim type for Halo
  • According to the salesman "better phosphorous technology" so the color of the light doesn't change over time. (that's all he could come up with)

When I checked on the prices online I noticed that the Nora housing alone is like $70. Not sure what, if anything, I'm getting from their proprietary housing.

Is there something I'm missing?

I don't mind spending more for a better product but I don't want to feel like a sucker. Are there any other "step up" brands that compare to Nora that are less expensive?
