I assume you must have purchased it second hand? Can you drop the canopy- often there is a label there with a model number etc.

schonbek has a very large selection of Chrystal's, thus its not about fake or real its about what quality crystal is on the frame. take one of the crystals or cut glass to a lighting store, anyone with sense should be able to tell you the quality.

I used to purchase these no-name crystal chandeliers from Austria and Italy in the 80s because they are lovely and inexpensive because there is no trade name. They used to be advertised in the back of House Beautiful, Home & Garden, all the big magazines.

I love my chandelier, however, someone wants to buy it from me, so how do i know how much to charge them? I will then buy myself a new one. @janmoy

BeverlyFLADeziner - I have a feeling my chandelier is from Europe, and it is def crystal, I can tell because in the evenings the setting sun reflects off of it, and there are rainbows throughout my foyer, it's spectacular! Do you think I can buy another one, if I sell this one? thanks

If you love it, don’t sell it. If you can get more money than a new one will cost you, and the replacement labor is minimal, then sell it. If you’re tired of it and want something new, price it at the cost of your new one.

Selling this one, only to replace it with something the same or similar, sounds like a lot of work for nothing.

RedRyder - i do love it, but i can sell it for a lot of money, I'm just not sure where to buy a similar one, when i look online they look similar, but in person they are not the same. It's going to cost me a couple thousand to move it because it's on an elevator, and they need to build a crate to transport it. If I knew where to buy the same one, I would do it. You might not see the exact style, but may help with estimating what you could ask for it. It’s price is only one factor though, as you have to double the thousands you referenced to move it out (and a new one in), plus shipping costs. Will the potential buyer absorb these costs or are you? Once you provide the asking price to the person, their interest may change.

It’s possible the “cost of the opportunity “ is not worth it. The taking down, shipping and reinstallation of a new one sounds like a whole lotta work! Your time and aggravation also has a cost. It’s a stunning chandelier and you love it, so I question getting into the hassle of selling it to someone else and replacing it.

The interest in it does sound tempting at first, but your explanation of the process you’re facing to sell it and replace it sounds more difficult. @Maureen solved the problem of finding another one.

Do yourself a favor and get a real price from an electrician for removing this one and replacing it with any other chandelier. Then figure out the cost to box it properly and ship it to an interested party. Add in the price of your replacement. Now you have the “real cost” of selling it.

Don’t forget to add in the aspirin you’ll need for the headaches you will get…. 😉

Are you selling the home and deciding if you want to sell it to the new owner or move it to your new home?

I excluded my dining room chandelier when I listed my previous house, because I like it and it had been discontinued. About the time we built it was being made again, so I left the old one with the house and bought a new one for the new build.

As with most things, lighting has gone way up in price, so I would first do some window shopping and see what it would cost to buy a new chandelier that you love. You might find that it will be thousands of dollars and keeping/moving the old one might start to look like a bargain. The quality of something made 16 years ago will also be better.

Someone said that in a thread on Houzz yesterday, and it is the BEST ever quip I've heard: ) ! in a long while.

Update! So, to appease my husband, I offered my chandelier to the buyer of my house for $15K, but she said no. So, I kept my chandelier - YAY!! As I began removing all of the crystals, I unscrewed the bowl at the bottom, and then a piece that looks like a pineapple came flying off and broke! I managed to save most of the pieces and put in a baggie hoping maybe someone can glue it back together for me. So I packed up the chandelier and it's in the moving truck! stay tuned for more...Thanks again to all.
