Arabasque tile: too much for a small bathroom?
Comments (35)hollysprings, thanks for the info. i decided to take the risk anyway because i am too tired to look for a new tile. (I chose all the other tiles to work with this particular color and already installed the floor tiles, sigh...). hopefully i will not regret it later.. knock on wood! kmcg, i had talked to WZ previously and they told me that it was fine to use the crackle tile on the shower walls, just not the floors. at any rate, i can't imagine it could be any worse than marble, which requires some upkeep and sealing, but doesn't prevent people from using it anyhow. but maybe i am just rationalizing my own decision, LOL! FWIW, the vibe crackle tile seems to have a thick and durable glaze over the top and sides, so the surface is completely smooth. i have left my sample tile in a bag with a bunch of stones and other tiles and taken it around with me to various stores and no scratches on it at all, though the bag actually put a huge scratch on my table when i set it down! HTH! zen, one idea i think i am going to do for my shower now, is instead of a panel, do a fat vertical stripe of the arabesque down the wall. if i can find some pics of this design, i will post for you. good luck!...See More12 x 24" tile too large for small bathroom?
Comments (12)thanks everyone. I'm glad you agree with the 12 x 24 because I really like the look. And I will skip the border tile which was iffy in my mind. For the person who told me to fix the layout size, I wish I could. Only eliminating my bedroom closet or an extension on the house could fix the problem. So I'm making the best of it. It works as a 1 person bathroom, and is off the master bedroom so it's not such a problem....See MoreHow much light do I need in a small bathroom?
Comments (4)As far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as too much light in a bathroom. After all, they don't all need to be on at the same time. Yep, an overhead light, vanity light(s), AND.... I would definitely recommend a light in the shower. That way, the shower space isn't spooky when you draw the shower curtain. No shower curtain? There will be shadows from the walls. You will think you haven't shaved for 3 weeks..... Lights installed in showers have to be a special kind..... I forget what it's called. On more general bathroom planning ideas..... consider blocking on the empty walls in case you want to add shelving, or several towels bars, or might later on need grab bars. Also, put an electric outlet in that 92" wall, in case you want to plug something in later, like a towel warmer, small heater, electronic scale, etc....See MoreBathroom vanity too low. Replace top+vessel sink or entire vanity?
Comments (11)Seems to me that with new counter & vessel sink the only thing significantly raised is the bottom of the sink. You’ll also have to do some plumbing modifications to add under sink piping & of course now there’s a problem with either where backsplash was with the old counter or with the mirror which starts at backsplash height. Of course you’ll also need new faucets. It’ll be like pulling a thread. Do you like vessel sinks? They‘re decorative & generally a lot more costly than a bathroom sink which you can get for less than $100. If you already know it’s hard to find a 40” counter (I don’t know that), then how about get a new counter, you can get a quartz or granite remnant from a stone fabricator, get an undermount sink to maximize counter space, and have the vanity built up from the bottom. I know that can be done - a frame built to raise the vanity. Check out having vanity professionally refinished to clean up the oak - or professionally painted if you want to change color. Can’t say how much this will cost but how long will you be in this house & how much inconvenience is the too low vanity for the people using it every day? That will tell you if it’s worth it. It’s also a value add improvement to house....See MoreRelated Professionals
