Gum ball tree trimmings

Hi, everyone --

Today I cut all the gum ball suckers off from the darned ugleeeee tree roots. Have a huge container of cut-up trimmings.

I have started an "informal" pile of old grass clippings, shredded leaves, cardboard, etc. in a hidden spot and wanted to add these trimmings as a layer. I noticed an odor from them and on my hands like turpentine. I don't plan to disturb this pile or fiddle with it like Sunny's Excellent Compost Bin, but I'm wondering if gum ball leaves have any properties that wouldn't be good in compost?? Anyone know??

Thank you --

Sunny
