Weep. Cherry Branches crawling on ground??

I have researched the site for my answer and although this was mentioned I couldn't find an answer.

I purchased two weeping cherry trees from a nursery last Sp.

Very healthy--about 6' at $75.00 ea. I saw a site of one of these on one of the forums and they were absoutley breathtaking. So, I don't want to mess them up by pruning them incorrectly.

They have grown rapidly (for trees) and the many branches are sprawling on the ground. When they reach the grown they are growing at right angles. We put a pole along the trunk to keep them upright last summer as they were bending over badly. They haven't bloomed yet.

  1. How do you take care of the limbs that are sprawling on the ground. We haven't done anything because we wanted to do pruning correctly.
  2. It appears that where we put the pole there are no limbs.
