I need a immune yellow rose bush!!

I am visiting my Grandma soon and she has been talking about wanting a yellow rose that is immune to disease. She has mentioned it several times but doesn't know of any yellow rose immune to disease. I want to take her a yellow rose bush that is immune to disease. Can someone please tell me what the best one would be.

No rose bush is immune to disease. There are some that have very good disease resistance, though. I would pick her up a lovely Julia Child.

Yellow roses are not as prone to black spot as they used to be a lifetime a go, but absolutely resistant I suppose no rose is. Candlelight is a fragrant and very healthy rose. It's something in between a hybrid tea and a shrub. Dark glossy leaves that never have any trace of BS or other fungus trouble here. Not even towards the end of the season. It tolerates rain, heat, and produces lots of flowers until frost comes.

Right, don't fertilize until they have recovered and have put out plenty of leaves. Bloom Buster is the wrong kind of fertilizer--regular Miracle Gro or Miracle Gro for Roses is fine, or any reasonably balanced fertilizer such as 10-10-10 or 18-6-12. Watering correctly is the most important thing. Keep a 2" mulch of leaves or bark around the roses. When the soil under the mulch feels dry-ish, water thoroughly with 2-3 gallons for small plants or 5 gallons for larger, plus or minus for extremely hot or very mild, cloudy weather. Usually once a week is fine. For new plants, I divide the ration in half and water twice a week.

My roses will look like that frequently in the spring when temperatures fluctuate like what you describe. They get frost nipped when the new growth isn't quite prepared for low dips in the temperature. You can pull off any foliage that annoys you, or the rose will drop it off on its own and grow lovely new foliage for you. Others may chime in if there looks to be anything else contributing to this, but it looks like normal spring variability to me. Cynthia

Thankyou so very much! It sounds like your all right. They prob are maxed out in the pots and no I don't intend keeping them in these pots. I'm in Florida, probably one of the harder states to grow roses in due to the humidity, sand, nematodes and the burning temperatures. Today's heat index is 102• One of the roses (pretty in pink Eden ) -has been in the pot couple months but it's black plastic n rather thin! My cl. Clotilde soupert rose is in a white plastic type pot that I transplanted her to 3 mo ago and it's a much larger pot than she was in before but it's still too small of a pot to keep a climber in for this amount of time. I'm in the process of amending my soil and laying pipe for irrigation so it's going to be around 2 more months Max. until I can get them in the ground but I do buy bigger pots to transplant them in when I think they need it. - I use rose tone monthly and some liquid seaweed. Also try to throw some alfalfa pellets on them but haven't done it in a few months. from my experience so far, growing in pots verses the ground is a whole new ballgame and a little harder for me to do . I completely forgot the black plastic pots are one of the worst to use especially in such heat! I'm still new to gardening (only 4yrs of doing it) but I do try hard to learn as much as I can by reading and others. I will purchase some very large pots if needed. I have about 7-8 roses that look like this all in pots, the other 142 ( in pots) are deep green & healthy. What kind of pots do u recommend?? I know what sizes they need to be in depends on the roses mature size & vigor but 25 - 50 gal pots for 150 roses is too costly for me right now Bc I'm preparing the soil for them to be in ground asap. First, where does your grandmother live? It makes a difference.

Here, Carefree Sunshine is a good, disease resistant, yellow. Although, she might have heard/read about Sunny Knock Out, which doesn't stay yellow long, it fades quickly to white.

I'm in the same zone as Diane and my Carefree Sunshine is a lovely yellow very carefree rose.I think your Grandma would love it

I don't know why, but for years now my Sunsprite can stand disease free in the midst of badly diseased roses. Beautiful large flowers and fragrance, but a short bloom life.

Carefree Sunshine or Lichtkonigin Lucia are solid choices for overall disease resistance. I have Golden Fairy Tale which is new to me this year, so too early to gauge disease resistance at this point, but if it performs like the rest of the Fairy Tale series, I'll be very happy.

I second Julia Child. Fabulous rose which has sat next to a rust prone Veteran's Honor for three years and never got rust. It's a beauty and worth having. The best yellow I have had.

You have listed your zip code zone. We need your planting zone, or a nearby city. There is a huge difference between Minnesota and Florida.
