Green machine! See batteries in future!

In the not so distance future Battery Power will over take Gas burners on Powered lawn equipment.... Just maybe propane will be around utilizing the littler green bottles, but IMO not cost effective until you are able to refill the small green bottles off 20 pound bottle or bigger so you don't have to buy the bottle every time or get credit of returning empty bottles may work. IMO this is not bad thing just some of us elthal smelling old farts will resist the change IMO with nothing to do but plug in.

Batteries have become more powerful, lighter, last longer, and of course more costly to replace. Some will say more of fire hazard also. Even riding mowers will go to battery power, the big push will start this year.

Remember the same chemistry that powered the batteries in the Baker Electrics and The Detroit Electric autos and in the early 1900's is being adapted to today's Volt.

Thomas Edison developed the first Nickel battery in 1901. In over 100 years they have been only able to improve on the Edison rechargeable by changing the anode and cathodes. but what ever combination they use they are working with one electron per ion. The battery is limited by the size of the ion.

The Navy has been working on batteries to use in the fossil fuel /electric system since the first submarine in the late 1800's. They changed to Nuclear subs to increase ranges and efficiencies.

Point is I would not hold my breath waiting for a break through in batteries that will change the world.

I doubt if Electric system will ever completely replace the gasoline engine. Based on prediction in the mid 1900's there are no AM radio stations today. In fact there are no radio as TV killed radio, per the predictions.

For now rcmoser, dream on. With current tech, the only way the world will move to electricity is if the gov bans gasoline. NiCad, and Lithium batteries are maxed out and the material goes bad with each recharge. Not to mention the making of batteries is GREAT for the environment.
For some apps, it would be great being quiet etc. But for others, who wants to drive a Corvette that goes Wiiiiiizz and not WAAHHHHH when u floor it??

I can't remember exactly what model I took the recoil off of. It was a S21ZPN or something like that. You need the recoil, starter cup and maybe 12-16 small flatwashers for each screw to get the proper clearance away from the top of the cup from the bottom of the recoil. If you don't use the fuel tank, you'll have to snip the plastic ear tabs off of the stock tank so the new style recoil lays flush. The set up works well for me and should for you as well. Ahh to the gentleman in Binghamton, there's a hydroponics store in Vestal on called Planted Earth In fact I think it's on Vestal Rd, They'll have everything you're looking for. The EZ Clone people have a product called REZ-CLEAR that they recommend for extending the life of the solution and keeping if free of algae and contaminants. I've just started usin it so no comments. I am trying to clone blueberries on a large scale. Unlike the posters here I did everything the formal (and expensive) way. So far.....not good. Tons of correspondence with manufacturers of clone machines and additives and they seemed to know alot less than me with their expertise being in the cannibis. I've asked one question of The Hormex people, the ez clone folks, Turbo Klone, Turbo King, Dip & Grow etc: Why are you recommending a solution PH of 6.0 for a plant that grows best in the field with a PH of 4.5-4.8. Their response? Try 5.5 And there it sits. Dip & Glo (the only knowledgeable person I've engaged with) does not recommend his solution in the tank. As a matter of fact, it breaks down in ten hours anyway. IBA is indeed insoluable, but NAA is not. Dip & Glo combines both in a liquid form as does Hormex in their Liquid concentrate. Hormex, however, recommends their liquid concentrate in the cloning solution. And I am currently using that at the recommended dosage (not on the label) of one tsp per five gals. along with silica and the CLEAR-REZ. While D n Grow recommends a 1 to 5 second dip with the cuttings that's for dirt (or dry medias) and rendered ineffective when washed off in a cloning machine. On this round of cuttings I tried to establish control groups and dipped the cuttings in the D&G for extended periods of time - up to 1/2 hr. - before they went into the machine. In another machine that is doing nothing but keeping the cuttings barely alive, I pulled out several rows of cuttings and immersed them in the dip and grow for over an hour. The theory (completely unproven) .....coating will wash off, the plant has to absorb the liquid to have any chance to be effectve. ONe note: The humidity dome is considered largely ineffective. it's been proven that the stems can absorb enough liquid from the bombardment they're receiving and I'd bet the dome is contributing to the rot. Conclusion: There are too many variables for me to ever be able to figure this out. At this point I am absolutely nowhere without a single success - though who knows, this current batch may actually root. Just a suggestion, but what about visiting major sewing dealers and asking if they have trade in's (some ladies always want the latest and greatest model) and maybe you can buy a nicer one, used, than you could have bought new, OR what about a DEMO model? Also check out Consumer Reports,,,They usually put everything thru it's paces and if anybody knows how they rank, they would,,they have a website and for a couple dollars on line, you can search it. A few times in the paper I've see ads where this company or that ordered X amount of school industrial machines and has too many,,you could try tracking these down,,they obviously would be work horses. What about contacting the actual manufacturers and asking them which of their models are the best for your type of need? I'm sure somebody there would be willing to give you their opinion since they know their own product. I just know from my own experience that I got a Bernina because the Husqvarna had some parts that weren't all metal and that turned me off. And of course Bernina was my quilting teacher's machine of choice. IMO. Good luck,,,Just trust in yourself enough to know that you will be able to handle what life throws at you and you'll be alright. In the end,,you'll probably end up in a better place than your life is now, so that is something to look forward to!!! :)

yayagal, the room definitely has a cozy feel. I don't know if it's the scale of the room or the angle in the wall from the roofline, but it has always felt cozy to me too. I'm excited to be making progress here. pps7, you're right about the Wythe Blue having a lot of green in it. I have now put huge samples of the Wythe on the walls and am communing with the color. While it doesn't MATCH the blue in the rug, I still think they play together nicely. Maybe I'm even a little happier that they don't match exactly...I tend to like things to be a little off/quirky. I have a picture that I want to hang in here that looks really good with the blue. Lacking a backup plan, I will most likely plow ahead with the Wythe. (And thanks for your comment about my living room. I'm still surprised by how much happier I am with it since my small changes.) jillinnj, thanks for your vote of confidence and the compliment on the beasts. The floors are heart pine and are in every room of the house except the baths. I think the attic floors are even heart pine, though we have yet to have them refinished. trailrunner, I'd love to see your rug...is yours the same colors too? Regarding the chairs, I might be crazy, but I'm toying with the idea of mohair velvet for the upholstery. I have 3 samples of gray mohair coming in the mail. I've always yearned for some, and have been inspired by sueb's soon-to-be saphire chair. I'll post picture of the samples when I get them. schoolhouse, yes, you're nuts. : ) When we moved in, our walk-in pantry was covered, wall to ceiling, with alligatored, chipping, peeling paint. A good friend of ours tried really hard to talk us into keeping it just like that. Theoretically, I admire a relic as much as the next guy, but it's much nicer to live in a house that isn't cracked and peeling.

Seen this on tv couple weeks ago. Not dream for me rather than nightmare. I am fine with burning the midnight oil! Supposable they found the big break through and the manufactures are going to make the push 2014(probably EPA pushing to the edge of the cliff). IMO I think with all the executive orders bypassing congress I think two strokes will be done for next year and gasoline models not too far behind. Wait till NASCAR goes battery power! won't that be fun!! Better leave drag racing alone. noth'en like pop of nitro firing off each cylinder!

Our current government with not a practice bone in their bodies, and even less knowledge of the basics of chemistry and physics may try a dumb move like that. but.......

They have wasted billions on a all electric car, in the last five years. How many do you see on the road today.

If you want an environmentally friendly mower or car, we should be looking to nuclear energy. If we had not spent the money on adapting 1000's of years old gear technology to the gas automobile and instead spent the money on improving nuclear power, we would have environmentally friendly nuclear power cars, trucks, and power plants.

Before all those "environmentalist" start evangelizing, remember that 50 years ago the average car got about 18mpg, (Yes there were auto transmission getting less than that.). Today the only basic difference is that cars today have 4, 5, and 6 speed transmissions. 50 years ago the top gear was about 1:1 ratios. Today the top gear ratios are 1.4 and greater. The other path was reducing the size and weight, which is just about reached the limit.
