Pruning the brittle maples for a longer life?

I'm on a farm with plenty of space, so this is somewhat different than someone planting these against the house or beside the car.

Acer saccharinum and Acer negundo are both rapid growers, and I need INSTANT shade here. While crappy trees, I think a small grove of these may be the best bet in my poorly drained situation for instant shade. High water table, possible seasonal flooding...

Both seem to fail with their poor crotches, splitting in snow or heavy winds, or just their own weight if they get large enough.

I'm fairly skilled with pruning. While I've never had either of these trees- I'm wondering... if I do an annual corrective pruning (even bordering savage if that's what it takes to remove bad angles), could I actually cure or greatly postpone the inevitable with these two species?

THANKS!
