I got my husband to understand the importance of cutting "suckers" off of the tomato vines this year. We got only 2 tomatoes off the vine before winter, but he did learn his lesson, and is going to let me prune stuff in our garden without freaking out. Especially with fruiting plants, you need the pruning to direct energy into making the actual fruit. Otherwise you'll end up like us, with a ginormous (this year still in containers outside our apartment) garden of lush greenery, and no grapes, tomatoes, blueberries, or anything. But as far as gardening... He wants a walled garden, but the only way I see him learning a lesson, is to let him build a retaining wall, and watch it collapse after the first rain (he married someone who actually studied engineering, and knows the math involved, and he still won't listen. "Men..." : D ).

This sounds like goodman advice but I didn't do this. My last apartment I totally redesigned and do decorated before moving in and loved it totally.

i now live in a new city and am in the process of buying and have plans all drawn up for the changes I want to make before I move in.

Why move and then go through all the trauma of mess and alterations if you know what to do.

I will move into a clean new apartment as I want it to be.
