Echo SRM-210

I'm considering buying the Echo SRM-210 line trimmer. I'm wondering if anyone has used this with the brush cutter kit. I would need to cut through some blueberry once or twice a year, nothing much more than 3/4". Is this machine powerfull enough to accomplish this task? The rest of the time I would be using it as a standard line trimmer. Due to budget constraints I can't afford the power head option.

I have the SRM-2100 which is basically same. Although it is supposed to be OK with blades, I have never been comfortable using one with a flex cable drive trimmer. For my heavy cutting I use an Olympyk 400 which is now marketed as EFCO.

For casual use like you mention, you should be OK. After all, Echo's lawyers would let them sell the machine with a hard cutting blade if they thought they'd have a products liability problem on their hands.

The SRM-210 is great with a grass blade but is short of power for brushing. Some, including Stihl, do not recommend a blade on a cable shaft trimmer. Others feel it is more forgiving than a solid shaft due to the ability to absorb shock loads.I have yet to see a shaft failure on the better quality brush cutters.Curved shaft trimmers are another story.

I have the exact same setup. I removed the brass sleeve by inserting a thread tap lightly into it and it pulled right out. Once threaded, you can insert a machine screw into the sleeve to pull it out. I have removed the H needle and cleaned the orifice that leads into the metering chamber of the carb. After reinstalling the H needle, I am not sure of the optimal postition it should be set at. We will need to experiment as per EPA regs, it is set to be very "lean". I have a failed primer base assembly on this carb, so it always dies lean after running only a few seconds.I don't think having the H needle all the way open is the way. That would be too "rich". Anybody else play with these cockeyed things?

i have used my echo 210 for the last 3 years it trims ALOT of stuff... i like the manual head, i can easily adjust the length of line for different trimming situations. IT only takes a second to put in fresh line. Another thing i discovered by accident one day is that once the 'tip' of the line gets 'skinny' , just pull the line out and insert the skinny tip into the head....efficient use of line and very little waste. The other day my SRM 210 crapped out...not sure why..but it became very frustrating. anyhoo.. so I bought a new snapper four stroke(briggs engine)the other day( nice machine although a little heavy) it came with the bump feed head....ya know , since having the manual head the few years i had forgotten how much of a pain in the butt the bump feeds are. The new Snapper is EXCELLENT. Well worth the investment...but i gotta change that bump feed head...i wasted so much line in the last two days i cant believe it!

I can't say the same about the Echo products, some people report getting 15+ years, but the SRM210 is very difficult to start. Mine worked for 4 years no problems, then it wouldnt start, I spent $60 and had the carburator rebuilt and the plug changed, it worked for a season. Then the next season I had the same tune up/cleaning done. It worked but had little torque and would bog down in 12" brush or weeds. Now, a season later, it wont start again. Now, the small size chainsaw I bought for $199. It worked for 6 hours then wouldnt start. I took it to the authorized warranty dealer and Echo refused to pick up the repairs stating normal wear and tear, furthermore the unit was leaking the bar chain oil. I took it back to big orange and since I had it for more than 30 days they refused to take it back. So I am done with Echo products, they charge too much for products and their warranty is worthless. BTW, just to let you know I have had lawnmowers for 16+ years that are working fine and I do regular preventive maintenance.

No advantage to having it set higher. If you turn down the idle it will just take a little longer for the trimmer head to start spinning. You most likely will never notice the difference. As long as the head is not constantly spinning its ok where it is, but if you would rather turn the idle down go for it. No harm in doing so.

The 21.2cc Vortex engine on the SRM210 is a little small, Echo does not show the spec but Mantis tiller which use the same engine spec it at 0.9hp. This is a little low power. I have the HC151 which use the same engine, it feels powerful enough, but it is only a hedge trimmer.

For blade, seems like you should really get a bigger engine. 3/4" stem is not exactly small. You want the engine to last a while also, can't push it to the point of bogging!!!

Spend a little more and get a SRM260 type. You be happier. It will last a long long time.

I recently got the Echo 22 tooth brush blade for my SRM-210 and it's made a huge difference to the brush cutting performance. I was using the 80 tooth blade and this cuts small brush well but dulled quickly and took forever on saplings.
With the 22 tooth blade, it now eats anything woody up to 1-2 inches, even at half throttle. The limitation is that the sapling being cut often leans on the blade and binds it: if you cut on the side away from the lean this isn't a problem. The blade stays sharp wonderfully if you don't try and cut stones with it! Sharpenable with a 7/32 chain saw file.
