My neighbors took pity on this old Geezer, and they shovelled the front of the driveway, the front walk, and the porch! I went out and cleaned off the car and truck today. When we moved in this house, back in 1950, after our honeymoon, about three weeks later came a deep snow, and that had us stuck in our house for almost a week! My bride had lived in Pittsburgh, PA., in the city area. If she could of gotten out of here, she would have called the whole thing off, and gone back to her Mother. But, after a large, double bull-dozer finally opened the main roads, we did get out to the grocery store about 5 miles away. Oh, what was the double bull-dozer? Two massive tracked dozers welded side by side, and they cleared the back roads of everything, including stuck cars and all! And, mail boxes!

Thanks for the advice. After breaking the machine into halves (the motor/wheels/handle and the impeller/auger/housing), it became much more apparent that the driven pulley will be the best thing to pull. As you said, it's there with 2 set screws and a key, and lots of rust. I can't build enough torque to get the screws off with my cheap-o allen key set, so I'm going to invest in some sockets (or at least one). Unfortunatley, every Sears within 50 miles of me is out of stock on the Craftsman 5/32" hex bit socket. I'll probably just wait it out and play with the rest of the thing in the meantime, which may provoke more questions, so I may be back. Thanks again for your help.

Sears sez they have the spring. At least, it is in their current parts list for your machine! Spring number is:Number145 in picture drawing. part number is: 53704 In case your idler pulley is bad, the diagram number is:#148, Part number:50793 And, the shaft idler bracket is: #112. Part number is: 1501112YZ. Hope this helps. And, for your info--type in www.sears.com That gets you into the parts and repair section. You can print out a line drawing of your machine. A page will open up, asking for your model number, and after you type it in and click the blue line, the parts place will open up. Hope this helps! Rustyj
