You have room for the Darlow's Enigmas. Where are you putting the rest?

Wow really ok this is why I asked Rogue valley told me 6 feet apart but I was reading about how big darlows got one of the reasons I posted. I suppose elsewhere in my yard I guess u should call these roses trees so 12 feet apart on the Darlows is good? what about the others?

Since Jeri Jennings gets about 4-7 ft wide, I'd guess you should plant your two at least 4-5 ft apart. In Zone 5, JJ may not grow to the larger size, but if you thought it might, I'd plant the JJs 6-7 ft apart.

My JJ are still too small to be helpful here, but most hybrd musks have a natural arching gracefulness about them that can be ruined by pruning. However, in the spring, you should probably prune for dead wood and crossing branches. Other than that, let it do what it naturally wants to do.

By the way, in case you don't know, HMs don't necessarily bloom the first year or two--maybe a few blooms, but nothing like the full bloom of their "mature" third or fourth year.

Oh really 3rd or forth year till they bloom ok So we are talking quite some time till the reach a good size then? What about mulching them in in the winter or just let them go? And do the love to be fed like hybrid teas? I had a fert program on my teas hitting them 3 times a week with alfalfa tea and mills magic liquid feed at half strength.Switching to a bloom booster after new canes set buds. Also I sprayed every other week with compass and banner max rotating between the 2 and used merit for aphids and avid for mites.

Jeri Jennings is zoned only down to Zone 6b by the breeder. You're going to need to do some serious winter protection on it if you want to see it next spring.

As for fertilizing, you should cut way back on your HT program with hybrid musks. If you fed them once every two months, they'd think you were crazy indulgent. Besides, you don't want to overfeed a Darlow's Enigma or it will eat Chicago. Mine was planted in amended soil and has been fertilized exactly once since. It's already engulfing an 8 foot wall. Of course I'm in a much milder zone 9.

Just reporting that my Jeri Jennings came through a 6a winter with no dieback. I didn't do any Winter protection. She's leafing out nicely and I can already see some tiny buds.

Just something that can handle -10 stands a decent chance of being worth trying since we haven't been below -15 in years. We've seen -3 in Philadelphia :-)

Thanks for all the replies JJ was listed zone 5 from Rouge valley but when u say -10 does that mean actual temp or does it include windchill? This past winter I think zero was prob our lowest temp but up to -25 below with the windchill. U say serious protection I have not lost 1 HT and all I did was mound about a foot of soil above the graft.

-10 means actual temperature. That's the minimum temp it's supposed to get in zone 6a, but that's becoming increasingly rare. It's becoming the exception around here to reach the negative digits.
