Prairiemoon if you see this may I ask how you would load more than one picture at a time?

A wonderful picture 'patty'!

It definitely would be convenient to be able to upload more than one picture per post using the "Image file to upload" but GW does not allow for this. Hopefully this restriction will be removed in the near future.

Patty, nice shot of your garden. Great to see how your Panicums fit into the rest of your landscape. They look so nice with the evergreen backgrounds, which will only increase in effect as they all mature. That's a very pretty rose! Which one is it, Patty? And do you have to spray it for foliar problems?

I agree with rouge21, I am not aware of being able to post multiple photos with that function. Why I have no idea. I just attempted to choose a file and hold down the 'command' key to select multiple photos, but it didn't allow me to. I will use tinypic dot com if I want to post a series of photos. But, I see no reason why you couldn't just keep replying to your own post to use multiple photos. I always feel the more photos the better, when I am reading on GW.

Thanks, dancinglemons. Any beds are better than no beds at all, I say. Bonus that you had hubby do it for you instead of having to do it all yourself, lol. The 8x4 bed, and 2 of the 4x4 beds are only going to be 9" tall. I figured that giving myself an extra 3" on top of the required 6" would be good enough, but maybe not? I did plan on one bed having one more set of timbers, which would make it around 12" high. I'm also thinking of not pounding the rebar into the ground, and instead slipping a short length (like 5 inches, maybe?) of pvc over the protruding parts on both sides, then inserting a 10' length of pvc into each piece to create hoops to then later add tulle or plastic as needed. I'm not sure it'll work, and I've never seen it done that way, but it should be a pretty cheap experiment to test out. I figure, with the weight of the lumber, it's not like the beds are going to go anywhere. What's the point of hammering the rebar into the solid ground and creating more work for myself? Along the lines of adding more work, I'm also thinking of pounding some rebar into the ground in the middle 4x4 bed, which will be the highest, slipping some copper pipe over the protrusions, and fashioning a trellis out of it. I know it'll be more expensive than pvc, but copper looks so great when shiny and new, and keeps its interest as it ages and develops a patina. Plus, it'll last forever, and it seems like it'll be a nice, semi-non-ugly solution for climbing plants. If it works out, I may build shorter ones for the other two 4x4 beds that flank it, or give them some other sorts of support structures on the sides closest to the fence. As for watering, I'm not really sure what I'm going to do just yet. When I say I'm learning as I go, it's really true... I have NO idea how to set up a soaker hose! There used to be an automatic sprinkler system on the lawn, and I suppose there still is, but the water isn't going to go where I need/want it, so that's kind of out. I would like to capitalize on the fact that this place has a fancy programmable watering timer installed in the garage to control everything, but I honestly don't know how any of it works. I don't know where the pipes are running, or how to hook anything up to them, or anything, and it seems like it might be a complicated process. Until or unless I get things figured out, I'll probably just be watering with the hose every day.

Rebecca, I have a feeling you'd be a very enjoyable guest. Perhaps Lisa and I can share you since she's less than 20 miles away and you'll get more bang for your buck when it comes to roses. Lisa, it has been humid but as you said it's somewhat cloudy today, and the high temperatures that were forecast for the weekend earlier in the week fortunately did not arrive. You're also too kind about the garden but I can assure you that overall it's no great shakes. Hardly anything is blooming and the ones that are happen to be more or less in the same area and that's how I was able to fool you all. Darn it, I think I did miss your remarks about the dahlias. I remember the picture of the beautiful pink one, although I wonder whether it would do as well for me in the greater heat. It would be so nice to have another companion plant, especially something as showy as dahlias. I'm afraid Blush Noisette does indeed become large. It's already outgrowing its space and I haven't even had it for two years. If I try to prune it I'll be cutting off panicles of flowers so I'm hoping to train it along the wall, over the head of Duchesse de Brabant, which however is also trying to outgrow its spot. So far I'm not impressed with DdB, whose flowers are not happy, even in this spot that gets less than half a day of morning sun. It's amazing to me how little sun these two roses need, along with their neighbor, Aloha, to keep putting out new blooms.

GardenHo, yes, the Ligularia do get a good amount of water. I've got sandy soil, but this is one of the only flat areas in my yard so they stay moister than other areas. About 30 min. sprinkler water every other day when it's in the 90s (32C +) helps them look good. But in the afternoon when the sun hits them briefly, they do look wilty for a while. Especially, BMC, Rocket sulks a little, but they always bounce right back.

.My mother was born in Bavaria, wow absolutely beautiful Sheryl! It's just like the paintings we have! First blooms are beautiful Kristine, thanks for sharing! The photos brighten my day! I'm a bit disappointed in Veteran's Honor, while it's in it's second year it hasn't had the vigor I thought it would and only 1 bloom so far. I know it'll get much better but I'm impatient sometimes :) I guess because I recall years back when I planted VH and within it's first year it shot up and presented quite a few blooms. The second year wow and so on. But as they say good things come to those who wait. The discouraging thing is it's susceptible to BS so I have to keep an eye on that. Otherwise it's one of my favorites, a standout out. The roses stay on the bush for more than 2 weeks and keeps it's color. The blooms nod a bit but I can live with that and it has a nice raspberry fragrance.

Love your garden, and great paths!

There are many free photo-hosting sites out there that people use to store their pics. You can paste the code for showing as many of them per post as you like. I haven't used mine since GW started allowing pics in any post. Making multiple posts here is easier - 1 step - and much quicker (one pic per post to have multiple pics) than to use the 3rd party process.

What I don't understand is why there's no facility for me to see the pics I've uploaded to GW. There are times I want to include a particular pic in another discussion. It doesn't make sense for GW to store it twice. Also, it would be nice to be able to browse the other pics of other users by a link in their profile.

Pairiemoon, the rose bush is Flower Carpet Pink. There was a time when the whole yard was roses. But the older I got there just wasn't the gusto to drag that spayer around. So I'm down to my best no spray roses. Their about the easiest of all plants to grow execpt for JBs. Sorry about all the pictures you might see. I've waited a long time to learn how to post them. Once again thanks everyone for all of the advice. Out of focus but I'll learn

Looks like that might be your Jackmanii Clematis? Very pretty photo. I like your structures for clematis. They have lots of room to grow. Post as many photos as you want. You have to make up for lost time. :-)

There's an explanation of how to load more than one photo at a time into a message in the FAQ on the New England forum that dates from before there was to option to load a single photo into a thread. As others have said, though, you need to first upload your photos onto a web hosting site like Photobucket or Picasaweb and then copy and past the code from one to the other. I find it useful if I expect I will use a photo more than once.
