My Marie Pavie aren't very thorny (haven't pruned them yet, though--maybe they're worse than I thought?). Bloomfield Abundance---AKA Spray Cecile Brunner--isn't thorny either. I just got done SP'ing it (had to use a pick axe) without the usual lacerations and snagged clothing.

The ones that I have are Cecile Brunner, China Doll, Marie Pavie, Renae, Alfred Colomb and Valentine.

Demitasse is a thornless mini rose. Zepherine Drouhin is a thornless climber with BS issues.

A rambler (it's so classed, but it's really more like a once-blooming, arching shrub unless you train it) that has thornless canes (but small prickles on the undersides of the leaves) is Tausendschoen (German for "thousand beauties"). It doesn't have much scent, but when it blooms in June it covers itself in flowers the color of pink cotton candy!

I'll add Memorial Day to the list. It has the least thorns of any rose I have.

David Austin's beautiful Heritage and Jude the Obscure are almost thornless, and so very wonderfully fragrant!

Reine des Violettes is completely thornless in my opinion.

The only one I have is being grown as a climber. It's David Austin's 'Mortimer Sackler' and has gorgeous cup shaped light pink blooms. It's growing on the railing of my deck, which is great since it's totalyl thornless, for me anyway.

Hi Cindi: I am surprised to hear that Crown Princess Margareta is thornless. DA does not list it as such. I hope it is, since I am expecting one to arrive.

David Austin lists Queen of Sweden as thornless.

There is a rose called Almost Thornless I recall.

Royal Highness, the stems look almost plastic because they are thorn free. It is a beautiful rose, and does very well in my zone.

I got my Reine des Violettes two years ago from Home Depot. They carry a series of Magnifiscent potted roses in early spring. It is definitely thornless. Several years ago I ordered RDV from Sam Kedem and it has lots of thorns. Make sure you get the thornless variety.

I saw a really nice looking Reine des Violettes just a few days ago in a Home Depot so I may go back to get it tomorrow IF I don't get snowed in by the 15 inches of snow that is predicted. My roses are leafing out, so snow has to be better than just freezing weather and cold wind.
HD had a much better selection on the Magnifiscents last year. I'm really sad I didn't get more of the old garden roses. I bought Baronne de Rothschild and Comte de Chambord and they both are terrific...although thorny. I did buy Helen Hayes at HD, and she's a smooth lady! Passed up a climbing Iceberg, and I may go back for it too.
I'm loving all these great suggestions. Wouldn't it be cool to have whole flower beds full of thornless roses?
I'm going to dig out my barberries this year. They just don't provide enough beauty to put up with their mean little thorns. The pyracantha has bagworms in addition to its thorns, so out it goes, too. Very sorry about the birds who nest in that monster.
The thorny quince and gooseberries can stay, as they earned their keep. I buy thornless raspberries and blackberries.
Senko, my Crown Princess Margareta has a few thorns near the bottom of the bush, but none at all on the octopus canes. It's one of my best growers, and it's in a spot that gets shade in the afternoon and way too much water.
My thorniest, nastiest rose is Falling in Love, and it died over the winter. I'm going to have to find a really long handled shovel to get that one out. In my mind, a rose named "Falling in Love" should not be covered with vicious thorns, but then i see irony in my "Ronald Reagan" breaking dormancy earlier than others. I know...I need to get a life outside of the garden...

Two more HTs you might consider are 'Ahimsa', a fragrant yellow that's absolutely thornless, and 'Naga Belle', a scentless deep pink that has produced a few widely spaced thorns in the 3 years I've had it. These two are Viru Viraraghavan roses available only as ownroot plants from RU.

I could list a host of roses that are low-thorned. But here's the risk ... no one knows your threshold for number of thorns other than you. So, I'll play it safe. Here's some roses I grow that are COMPLETELY thornless for me, a true rarity in the rose world.

Reine des Violette - watch out for thorny impostors. Mine is the "true" RdV and came from The Antique Rose Emporium.

Cindi,I LOVE my Cl. Iceberg-it's 12-14 yrs. old and has a trunk as thick as my wrist but it does have thorns. It's a sight to behold in May when it's in first flush. After that, it's very sporatic blooms are nice but nothing like the first. After watching Paul Zimmerman's video, I decided to pillar it on a tree since it's tends to get floppy and ramble over that wall and the drive. I think you need it, it's calling your name. ~barbie
