Have you ever had a rose disappear?

Last summer I had a young Flammentanz growing nicely. The other day I was by that spot and it had disappeared. No dead canes. Nothing.

Not the first time. I've planted roses before and later wondering how they were doing looked and there was no sign of them. Death beds for sure.

Now not to be totally downbeat I've had many others that grew and prospered. Many of them old roses that have been through the decades and survived. I mean Rugosa Alba you can't kill with a stick suckering all over the place even turning up in places far from the original plant. Jenny Duval is another one that I've dug up twice and it comes back. What sort of genes have modern hybridizers added to make them so puny?
