Spacing with Climbers

So over the last year I've bought about 12 climbers, most are own root and are still in pots. My goal is to get them in the ground soon. The idea I have is to plant them along the fence lines - to do that we obviously need to put some trellises in. DH has promised to get on that soon. I'm wondering though, how far apart do I have to space the roses when planting? I want them to basically cover the fence at some point. Also how do I train the branches? Is it ok to have canes from one rose mix with another of a different colour? I kind of like the mixed look. I've never grown climbers before (I'm sure that's obvious with my silly questions) so no idea how to really go about doing this.

Thanks.
