Single (5 petal) Mauve remontant needed

I have been looking unsuccessfully for a five petal mauve remontant rose to balance a planting of the yellow five petal remontant Sunny June. Are there any roses that would fulfill this need?

How about Daydream...it's close with the petal count. I really like this rose.

I was thinking Lilac Charm (LeGrice, 1962) but Daydream is certainly fabulous (thanks, Robert!). I am adding Daydreams' parent, Lavender Dream to my garden this year (LD gets huge tho); it has the European ADR designation, sposed to be very disease resistant. Hope you find a mauve single you like, what a splendid pair it would make with Sunny June! If you like hot pink, Playgirl might also be nice.

The bloom opened. Pretty flower: loosely quartered (similar to Comte de Chambord), lightly fragrant, and clear lilac*. Good, strong stem. The color and fragance was disappointing but this is a first year own root plant. I'll give it another year or two for the plant to mature before making a final judgment. The plant itself is still tiny, but bigger than four other own roots in the same pot ghetto. Only the Bourbon DUEL DE DR. REYNAUD is bigger, and it is a climber. It is also one of the few babies that has foliage. I don't spray the roses in my pot ghetto because I want to be able to accurately access their black spot resistance before planting. You'd be surprised at how many of the babies never make it into the beds. * I define lilac as lavender with a noticeable pink undertone.

Beth, Please see the difference between your Blue Boy picture on help me find and the other pictures of blue boy on Help me find: Your Blue boy (many petals): Other Blue Boy (less petals and different flower): They are two different roses though the names are the same. I know because I bought a Blue boy bush this year and on its label it was written that it is developed by Interplant, year 2000. on the label it was also written repeat blooming. I bought it because i liked the flowers on the photo of the label and because it repeated. When I went home and researched the rose, I was shocked that on Help me Find it was written that Blue Boy does not repeat. I called the shop and they explained to me that my rose is a different rose that repeats. Anyway, I will understand what I got when I see how it blooms this year.

Good point Chris, though I have Indigo and the color is different in person than the blooms on this rose. I really am not good at rose ID so I'm relying on the input of folks who know Gallicas better than I do to keep it in that class of guesses. I haven't found that my Indigo suckers (yet), since it only just survives my winters, but time will tell, eh? So far this mystery rose has stayed pretty contained but it's only coming into its third season this spring so it hasn't found its wings yet. I'll post more photos if I can catch it blooming, and welcome input. And Anne - I didn't mention it, but Alice Vena is also a RV rose and a gallica, so it's entirely possible. My impression from the HMF photos is that it's a bit more purple than this rose, but I'm sure that depends on the weather conditions. I don't recall if that one was in stock during the period this rose was a mystery rose, but we'll see as it develops further this coming spring. Cynthia

Hi Carol, I'm following you around the forum, I guess. We're the two night owls--but I had a huge nap late in the evening, so now, of course, I'm wide awake. It was a nice day today--92F, actually, and tomorrow will be cooler yet. Then we have a high of 70F. Can you believe that? We're going into the season of up and down weather. But it's still horribly dry with no rain since May. I feel so badly for California and their awful fires. Over 4000 lightening strikes started the whole mess, and since Aug 15, 1.25million acres have burned, plus five deaths and 3500 structures destroyed. As you can guess, I read all this earlier in the day. We have lucked out with just a few smaller fires this season. I agree with your daughter about fall and allergies--they do get better. I suffer from them, too. Anyway, we had a nice BBQ, and my granddaughter Clare was over. She's feeling better, but the covid mess has been very hard on her. She actually had it, and has been over the stuff for several weeks now. What a relief. Have a nice day tomorrow. I don't suppose Canada has a Labor Day holiday tomorrow. I have Route 66, which I love, but it's not that easy to find. It's actually more of a purple than a lavender. I also have Wild Blue Yonder which is not a single but has a very natural look to it, and probably would look very nice with Sunny June. It's been many years since I grew Sunny June and I wasn't very successful with it in terms of its shape. I was really new to roses at that time.

Blueberry Hill is a rose that humans can grow. It's is more than single but it's growable.

You might try Kakwa, mentioned on the Scots roses thread. It's mauve, repeats, and would grow great in your area. However, it does spread, particularly if it's got close companion planting.

Taking a cue from the shape of 'Sunny June's flowers, you might use a rose like the rugosa 'Schneekoppe' (AKA Snow Pavement) with its loose, informal semidouble blossoms of pale lavender. The compact, full nature of the shrub might also be just the ticket.

Hmm, I thought Kakwa was white too. So I looked in my reference library, but didn't find any book that was willing to admit such a rose existed. So I did an internet search, and Corn Hill seems to also think it's white.

Kakwa is included in Modern Roses 12. It is listed as the result of an open pollination of R. spinosissima hispida. It was introduced in 1973 by Ag Canada. The color is shown as creamy white and is says it is subject to much suckering. Does that all sound right for those of you who grow it?

I must have that rose confused with something else in my head. I could have sworn I bought Kakwa when I lived in Texas and had it in my lavender section of the garden, but maybe it was another Spin., and got them conflated in my head.
