Comments (5)You are lucky to get this shrub rose, hybridized by Paul Jerabek. He is a highly respected Ohio hybridizer, now 98 years old. There is a very good article about him and the roses he has hybridized in the Jan/Feb issue of The American Rose this year. WOMEN IN MILITARY was originally named "Women in the Military", which is a verteran's organization, but rose registration rules prevented the longer version. The article says that the shrub has won trophies for Best Modern Shrub, and usually produces giant sprays that make long-lasting bouquets....See MoreNew Paul Barden Roses at Rogue Valley Roses
Comments (24)I am sitting here, trying to decipher YMMV?!?! Anyway, I might give it a try anyway. BS is a major problem in my garden. I don't spray w/big chem, but have had good results with finely ground cornmeal. Especially if I'm diligent. Dakota Redwing is such an appealing rose; I feel like I have to give it a try. Thanks for your honest input and I look forward to hearing about more of your work! Golden Buddha is the only rose in my garden that I want more than one of the plant. Wonderful, happy rose which delights me @ time I see it....See MoreNew Paul Barden Roses at Rogue Valley Roses
Comments (42)I should show photos that depict its lack of vigor too. Great for dry heat, no crisping... but maybe not good for other areas. No new little canes yet. One got some black spot and defoliated, which isn't a problem ever here so if you're in a black spot area it's probably not so good. The others all have a little black spot too. This one gets the most sun and heat... it's the happiest. All my broccoli and celery, lettuce and radishes bolted in that bed too. It's hot....See Morejimofshermanoaks
