Finally remembered password!...oh, and bought roses 8-)

I'm tempted to tell you all my password so you can remind me next time I forget it. But if I forget it, I won't be able to tell you. haha.

Anyway, yes. I'm alive. As proof, I offer my list of Vintage roses just arrived on my doorstep this afternoon.

Mme. Alfred Carriere - I have a mature one in the backyard, underappreciated until I came to, and realized I needed on on the front porch, to mesmerize on summer evenings.

Alister Stella Gray - no experience with this one. Also for the front of the house which is, so far, dark blue.

Secret Garden Musk Climber - just climbing on the bandwagon here....I am so easy.

Cymbeline - swayed by Gregg Lowery's description - again, I'm easy.

Cl. Hadley - I actually had a start of the bush form sent to me once, and I recall the bloom was fragrant. I lost it sadly, probably during a Santa Ana condition.

Laughter Lines - I know a few of you have this and like it...a friend of mine admired the photo in Botanica, so I bought it for him.

Autumn Damask - zone-pushing anyone? I grow Leda, so I am confident this will be real pretty in a few years.

Niles Cochet - actually, this order was supposed to be all gorgeous fragrant drooping tea roses for the front yard - so you know how that goes...now I need to place another order, and if you want to weigh in on your favorite teas, that will expedite the process. 8-)

Congratulations on your orders, now for the teas...

Try LePactole, the bloomingest rose ever. I give it 5-stars. Also, Ducher has the most perfect ivory blooms. Mons. Tillier has such great upright vase form and incredible hues.

I have had VERY good luck with bodybags this year. Only one was mislabelled (with only one more to bloom and prove itself) and out of nine only two croaked. A couple are iffy with PM, but at least three look fantastic. Yankee Doodle, New day, and Coral Dawn are near-perfect still, although I know RMV can still show up at any time. Oh well. I am enjoying them while I got 'em! I paid $24 for nine roses. Not too shabby.

Mary Lou, I can't wait to see roses with bougainvillea!! I'm sorry your roses didn't come through. Can you get a few of the rainbow knockouts locally? I have not seem them for sale here. Heck, I'm still looking for a PINK knockout at a decent price. The rainbow are beautiful and would look great with the Julia Child rose I bought last weekend. There is something satisfying about going outside and seeing a pot ghetto. Mine is constant. I have 6 roses waiting to be planted. I don't even have beds made for them all yet!!! GGG

Hey Kim, I still don't have power either. At least you have some warm little bodies that like to snuggle! My kitty only puts up with that for so long. She's been tolerating it for an extra 30 seconds lately because she's so cold. I've tacked up sheets over the windows to keep out drafts, and I'm going to block off the hallway to the bedrooms and just stay in the living room. I plan to cook a fair amount of pasta, maybe heat up some spaghetti sauce for it. If you're able to light the burners on your stove, try boiling a few pans of water. We got the house up almost to 70 degrees yesterday that way, but there were three people there. Big Lots still has lots of candles, including a $4 bag of 110 tealights. We've clustered every candle holder I own on a table in the living room and put a tealight in each one. That warms things up, too! The bigger and taller the glass holder, the more light it'll reflect. Even better if you can prop a mirror behind them. Big Lots also has those potpourri fishbowls for less than a dollar, so I bought two. They throw quite a bit of light. And I think most of the dollar stores in Norman will have that kind of thing, though maybe not the big bag of tealights. Here's hoping your power comes on soon! In regard to tea roses I'll just mention the ones that have done very well in my hot garden. Some that are really beautiful but the blooms fried are Angels Camp Tea, Monsieur Tillier and Clementina Carbonieri. They're completely worth growing if you don't garden in an extra-hot microclimate like mine.

If you can find it Westside Rose Cream Tea blooms all the time, very bushy and yet supposed to get not too large. Le Vesuve never stops blooming and I love the color. Also Rosette Delizy, Duchesse De Brabant, Mme. Joseph Schwartz, Mrs. Dudley Cross, Mme. Charles, Cels Multiflora, Spice, Duke of York, William R. Smith and Second Street Tea.

Hi Andrea, I was just thinking about you, too. I understand I may be seeing you on the 27th, hurray!

As for the roses, I'm not a big fan of Madame Alfred, but mine is a minority opinion and you are free to dismiss it. It got a lot of mildew here, but your climate is quite different from mine and it may not be an issue for you. Since you have one already, you know how it responds to your conditions.

I have Alister Stella Gray out on the back fence but it is one of the ones I just planted last year, so I will just be hopeful along with you.

Secret Garden Musk Climber is a very large rose, bigger than I imagined. Make sure you give it generous space. I did not allow enough, and it did not survive when I tried to move it to a better spot. I have heard that it does not like being moved.

I grew the shrub form of Hadley for a few years. The fragrance was divine, but it never did much and eventually I removed it. However, it may well like your climate better.

Finally Autumn Damask. Mine just died, probably due to gopher damage. I had it for a good ten years. It bloomed in flushes for me all summer, so I suspect it rather likes warmer climates, unlike some of the other OB-OGRs. It is rather wild and woolly in its appearance, better suited for the back of the garden than front and center. I enjoyed growing this rose, but have already replaced it with something else better suited to that spot -- front and center in my garden.

I've never grown Laughter Lines or Niles Cochet, and don't know them very well (or at all, in the case of Laughter Lines).

In any case, have fun with your new roses.

Thank you, Greybird. I've had Msr Tillier, and wasn't my thing colorwise. Ducher has been on my long list for a while, and I will look into Le Pactole. 8-)

Hi Pam, I know, I've been mia too long, and miss my friends. It's a warm fuzzy feeling to know I am missed too. Thanks for your encouragement. I am planning on going to 2/27 Dirt Day, I know you guys are down there a lot, but always hope to see you.

Oh enough, good to see you here, I'm glad I stopped in.

Have fun with your new ones, The Hadleys in my garden were had and met a terrible fate. Yours may like living in your area of CA.
