A new baby 'Free Jessica' and friends

I've already got a "Free Jessica" rose growing in the garden, but today I received a new band of this rose from Rogue Valley Roses. I feel fortunate to have been able to obtain the second specimen of this hard-to-find rose. My older one came from Roses Unlimited, who no longer carries Jessica. I had another one on order from Vintage, but they ran out of them before I could get mine. I thought I'd post a pic of the tiny little band, in case someone else is considering ordering a Jessica from Rogue Valley Roses. I ordered from them because I wanted it growing on its own roots. I didn't want anyone to be surprised by how small the band rose is when it arrives. I'm thrilled to have it, and it seems healthy, even though it is very small. Thank you, Rogue Valley Roses for offering this rose!

Thank you for the yummy smelling vanilla bean simmering waffle bar. I like the smell of vanilla VERY much. Thank you also for the very pretty wind chimes. Pink with silver etching--just beautiful. I didn't put them out today after school, though, as the wind was reeealy blowing, and I was afraid something would happen to them. I will see what tomorrow holds. I googled the brodiaea Queen Fabiola bulbs that you sent. I was really clueless.(what's new sometimes) They look like my favorite color of blue!!! THANK you! I esPECially loved your letter. So newsy and sweet. Plus a nice selection of seeds to divide between our friends. Beth, your seeds are here, too, along with a number of fulfilled wishes. I want to thank you for the darling little soft brown puppy with the dark brown ears and wearing BUNNY EARS! It is so darn cute! Poor thing is trying to lug around this clear carrot filled with jelly bean eggs. Patty, I forgot to thank you for the seeds that you sent to me-tall green nicotiana and milk chocolate foxglove. I am absolutely THRILLED!!! As I have said to the rest of you, I think you will also be happy when you see what seeds you will be getting, too. Really WAY to go, Fox and I had to go through that with Cole, and we basically did it the same way. Sheesh whats wrong with some teachers? Teaching is not my calling I do know that and there are alot ALOT of wonderful teachers out there but then also there are some that just cater to the "in crowd" or something. Sheesh no child should be bullied and if the teachers don't step in while the kids are in their custody then by all means kids need to be able to defend themselves. (not with weapons or such) but you can't hide from a bully all your life and teachers need to realize the damage that it puts on our kids. I gave Cole a baseball bat after his older delinquent cousin kept picking on him then had the gall to come into our yard to pick on him, cousin is Alans age (4 years older than Cole), Alan hadn't gotten home yet and Cole came in crying with his head all red from being slapped so I handed him a baseball bat and told him to go have some swinging practice then I called Jack, a policeman friend and he came by and picked timothy up. He is now in a Juvie prison for some reason or other.

Fishy, I am giggling at the magnetic locks, those must be pretty funny to watch adults try to get into! April! I am so sorry, I didn't congratulate you on your new walking baby! Congratulations! That is great news! Well, except for you needing her to sit still right now, lol! Letha, Mmmmmm, cookie dough body butter, sounds really yummy. Careful now, those little men may try to take a bite out of you! No big plans for me this weekend. My girlfriend might be coming over to visit tomorrow night. Both of us are so busy anymore it is hard to find time to get together like we used to. Might take the kids to see B Movie on Sunday. Medo, I have been wanting to have a greenhouse ever since I saw Ed's cousin's. He built one for his wife. He's an electrician and installed the mechanical windows that are hooked up to the thermostat. Installed a sprinkler system and tons of racks. It attaches to their family room by sliding glass doors and she can just step right in from the house. Her garden is amazing! She has the most gorgeous yard. They have giant pampas grass, elephant ears, a pond, arbors, gorgeous perennials. Absolutely beautiful. She is able to start her plants so early in the greenhouse and they are so big and healthy come spring. Lucky duck!

heya ya'll, I am pooped, tired, sleepy worn out. lol. I went shopping today, remind me to stay AWAY from malls and stores until Christmas is over!!! I went with my " saurrogate" mom sheesh I still don't understand how some people just LOVE to shop! The way I shop is I write a list, go in get whats on my list and check out! If I wan't exercise I ride my bike or take the kiddos to the doggie park or just go to the country and walk. FORGET SHOPPING for this girl! Becki Dave is in our prayers that he has a safe trip. I know it worries you til he walks in. I am sooo sorry that some of ya'll or ya'lls loved ones had a rotten childhood. Its sad that parents take their frustrations out on their kiddos. Carol, I don't blame your DH one bit for not liking her, he may love her deep down because she is his mother but he doesn't have to like her. Fishy, sweetie you don't have to go out of your way at all for me. I am very easy cause I love everything that is sent with a hug and a smile. WHOOHOOO I send to Sandy!!!! Very pretty pictures of all the plants. I must admit Free Jessica is looking very lovely in your pictures. I would have had this rose so I could make my own judgment but Vintage was out when I ordered it too.

Hi Randy,

I bought a "Pretty Jessica" band last year on your recommendation but looking at yours I'm not sure mine is Pretty Jessica! It's never flowered, but the leaves are very small (like a mini) and the new growth is red. The new growth on your little band looks green.

Hmmm. Maybe I need to order another one. I really want this rose.

Debbie, the leaves on 'Pretty Jessica' are not small at all, in fact it has rather large leaves.

Ingrid, it was a disappointment for me when Vintage wasn't able to ship my 'Pretty Jessica'. I actually wanted to get one from Roses Unlimited, because the one growing in my garden came from there and it arrived as a large 1-gallon plant. Too bad neither place has it any more. Thankfully Rogue Valley came through for me on my second specimen.

Eric, my plant markers came from "GardenMarkers". See the link to their website below. They are not cheap, but they are top notch quality. I've been happy with them.

I kind of like the name "Free Jessica" too, Greta! But mostly, I refer to this rose simply as "Jessica".

Thanks, Randy! I must not have a Jessica rose. I just noticed it's first bud last night - it's only 1/2 inch tall! So I'll consider this little rose my surprise.

I just ordered a Jessica from RV to ship next week. Thanks for the post. I wouldn't have known it was wrong until I saw the photos of the leaves. Definitely not my little baby!

Debbie, I'm glad you've got a real "Jessica" rose coming from Rogue Valley. I hope you like it, I think you will!

Krista, that variety of lavender actually likes it here. I was glad to find a type that lives more than a year.

I'm so happy I have Pretty Jessica (thanks to this forum). I'm waiting for warmer weather to get her growing again. This June gloom is getting old. Thanks for the link to the garden markers!

Mary, you're welcome ... I think you'll be impressed with the garden markers if you decide to order some. They are just like the ones you see at the better botanical gardens. Very clear to read too.

I'm glad you got a 'Pretty Jessica'. She's a treasure!
