We Didn't Like Ike!

Not because of the rain as we only got about 4", but because of the wind which, although we are over 300 miles from Galveston was still packing lots of gust in the 65-70 mph range once the storm hit here.

Our lights went out at 10:30 on Saturday morning, which wasn't a surprise. What was irritating was that they didn't come back on until yesterday morning! And there are still people in the dark s the utility workers try & put the grid back together.

We've got about 2500 evacuees here from Beaumont & have been told that they'll be here for about another two weeks because down there there are not only no lights, but no water or sewers either.

And if you're wondering about your gas prices, about 20% of the refineries on the Texas Gulf coast are still shut down & will remain so until the lights down there are back on.

The good news is that we now know that the chest freezer will keep everything frozen solid for four days if you don't open it. The fridge is another story, but at least it's all cleaned out & clean.

Personally, I'm glad to be back in the 21st century.
