No weed-n-feed, the weeds are more than likely annual and will die with the first frost. In October you can put down Pre-emergence and another two shot next spring.

With bermuda you can apply fertilizer monthly during the growing season. They must have forgotten to tell you that. If you don't care about green, you don't have to fertilize at all, but most people care. Did they tell you to get a reel type mower, set it to 1/2 inch, and mow every other day? With bermuda you can have the best looking putting green surface or you can have a shaggy looking lawn or anything in between. Bermuda is one of the few grasses that gets very dense when mowed between 1/16 to 3/4 inch. When mowed toward the very short height, you get a horizontal growth habit with no long stalks. You cannot mow that low with a rotary type mower, though.

texas weed, in the past i've always put out HALTS for my pre-emergent weed care in October but there was an article in the local paper here from neil sperry that said to put out a product such as dimension for weed control in the spring. would this be the same as pre-emergent weed care or something totally different???

ccualumni: I missed the part about only having mowed 3 times since mid July. Is there a reason you are not mowing weekly or even twice a week?

ajones: You don't say where you live, but I believe Neil Sperry is in Texas. If you don't live in his neighborhood you could be very late or very early for preemergent. Besides I usually do the opposite of whatever he says to do. He's never met a chemical he didn't love.

Ajones for what it is worth HALTS is a registered trademark name of Scotts Pendimethalin. Keep in mind Pendimethalin is sold by many other manufactures and not exclusive to Scotts.

I didnÂt get the impression the OP was asking about pre-emergence, rather post-emergence products for after the fact. To answer your question pre-emergence is all about application timing whether it is in the fall or spring. The trick in my opinion is to remove the timing element as much to the extent as possible by selecting a product with the longest effective life. Again IMO Pendimethalin is a short lived product and the window of opportunity is very small.

I am a fan of a product called AMAZE made by Green Lite. It last up to 6-months and as long as you do not get it down too late pretty much removes the timing element out of the equation for either spring or fall applications.

Another product I think that is very good is as you mentioned is Dimension. It last up to 4-months, but is much more widely available to the general public from many manufactures. My Lesco rep turned me on to a few hundred pounds last spring for trial and my Son is very pleased with the results in the Landscaping business.

Here is a tip: Put down two applications spaced 6-weeks apart for the most effective control, especially the spring applications if you live more toward the southern parts of the country where the growing season is quite long and extended. People here in Texas that only put down one application say in February, still get clobbered in June and July with CG right up to Halloween before it really cools off.

my mistake. i live in keller texas which is a suburb north of ft. worth. what i did leave out is that neil sperry was saying to put dimension down between now and september 10th but that seemed very early to me. i've always had good luck with halts for the most part by applying this in october and march time frames. where do you purchase this AMAZE product from???? also, when you mention to put two applications i'm assuming you are speaking of either product and are you saying for example in the fall to put down some in october and then another in november 6 weeks after the first???? thanks for the info everyone!

AJ if you wre to put Demension down now it should carry you through to Xmas. The two applications is for early and late Spring. I have seen AMAZE at HD and ACE hardware stores or you can order it via the manufactures website

Dimension is availible from many manufactures. However there are about a dozen or so LESCO dealers are in the DFW area and any of them carry Deimension.

i actually found AMAZE at my local home depot here in north fort worth over the weekend and put it out yesterday.

AJ, I do see AMAZE seasonably at HD. Always looks like it comes out late in the Spring so you might want to go back and get what you need for next Spring. Got a gut feeling you will need it by the end of Feb or early March.
