According to the google images and details these 10 species of sawflies attack May-June and second crop in Aug through October. Original poster's photo appears to be a pupa, golden brown spun cocoon. Pre-pupal probably from later year crop will overwinter in the soil so treating the soil is important also. Catching the clusters of recently hatched worms and removal/disposal is highly recommended and regular monitoring for the appearance is a year round task. U.Maryland site says these are not critters that can be controlled with BT.

To follow up from January 2012. In January 2012, I was losing my sight in both eyes after having cataract surgery in 2010. The optometrist, Dr. Schell's attitude always included the words "at your age" it is the best you get. I was 47 at this point. It was another 13 months before I received a YAG, laser surgery to get rid of the scar tissue. Since the Crystal lens is back in your eye, the scar tissue is forced up against the lens and stops it from flexing. I was told this on the day of the Yag surgery, Feb 13, 2013. I no longer could tell when the eye chart was put on the wall, but could see down at the end of a hall. Felt very weird and frustrating that no one understood except the surgeon. I came out the surgery with more light than I could stand. It was amazing, but painful and hard to get through the day. That amount of vision did not last, but in 2016 my prescription remained the same. I definitely need glasses to drive, they annoy me to walk around the house though. Need reading glasses to read newsprint, but not the computer. Still have other problems. In the original surgery on my left eye, there was intense pain(think labour pain). I believe I had problems with the muscle relaxant, which I had noted in my file and spoke to the anesthesiologist about. He just rolled his eyes. He gave me too much for my system, the surgeon commented that my eye was spinning and then pain. I have complained continually that I am missing vision on my left side. I have also flew over the top of items, since they were below my line of vision. In my last appointment (7 years since surgery!), there was mention of a retina tear. There is two lumps in close proximity to the tear, The last optometrist mentioned the lumps might be cancer, the latest says maybe the start of AMD. Still believe it is better than being blind, but not a miracle cure. I do not feel the crystal lens flex like your natural lens. I have been in tense situations and when the other person crosses their arms, I think Great!, they are finally listening. After several different situations of arms being crossed, I know I am missing visual clues!:) Trying to learn patience... Sorry for the long post. Hope it is helpful.

Is there any reason you don't want to use Frontline Plus? I have used effectively on my dogs for 10 years. I prefer it because it only travels through the skin and not the entire body and kills ticks. I am very careful to follow the directions otherwise it is not effective. We may get pizza during a lunch meeting from a drug rep, but that's about it. In fact, I was just eating Comfortis-supplied pizza yesterday. Here's what I learned: 1. Comfortis is an organic product, but it is ingested and stays within the body for the entire month or longer. Frontline TopSpot is not systemically absorbed- it stays within the sebaceous glands. Advantage IS systemically absorbed and then redistributed to the skin within a couple of days. 2. Some dogs vomit the first dose, but rarely vomit subsequent doses. 3. It is labeled for dogs older than 10 weeks and greater than 5 pounds. 4. It is transferred through breast milk, which may cause puppies to vomit. The drug rep acted like this wasn't a huge problem, but I've seen too many puppies aspirate and die after vomiting, so to me it IS a huge problem. They don't know how much of the drug gets into the breast milk, and therefore cannot guarantee the puppies are not getting an overdose. And remember, it's only labeled for dogs 10+ weeks and 5+ pounds, so who knows what it does to younger and smaller dogs? 5. 100% of the fleas die within 4 hours. That is VERY impressive since Frontline takes up to 24 hours. Since the fleas die so quickly, it is impossible for them to lay eggs and continue the flea life cycle. Frontline Plus has an insect growth regulator which accomplishes the same task. 6. Comfortis does not kill ticks, leaving your dog susceptible to all of the tick-born diseases unless other measures are taken. The drug rep recommended the PrevenTic collar (amitraz) along with Comfortis. The PrevenTic collar is VERY effective against ticks but is a very potent insecticide and has adverse effects on people and cats. The dermatologists and parasitologists at school have been recommending people rotate their flea/tick control products monthly to prevent resistance. Comfortis allows another tool in the belt to accomplish this.

jejvtr, I think you nailed it. Not everyone understands what is going on here in New England. This isn't just another boring day in front of the TV, and the annoyance of shoveling or entertaining the kids. It is like a hurricane, except in slow motion. School roofs are now collapsing, sometimes with kids still in them (so far, luckily no injuries). Residential roofs are starting to fail, and for those who don't know, a failed roof is not just a hole in a roof--a roof ties a building together, so the entire structure collapses and pancakes in a matter of seconds. The Red Cross is running out of blood, what with all the road accidents and cancelled donor days. It's only February, and we've had 70" of snow. What people don't realize is that most of it is still on the roofs and the ground, thanks to historically cold weather. And two more storms are coming next week--possibly three. Our houses and businesses are not built to stand up to this, and cannot possibly support another two feet of snow. Chicago's 20" is just not in the same ballpark--we've had that storm seven times over, and more. Unless the weather pattern changes soon, spring will bring massive property damage, as well as injuries and fatalities. A lot of people are going to lose their homes, and some may lose more. It's a nightmare.
