memorize poetry such as we had to in grade school. Poems like The Children's Hour, The Village Blacksmith, Casabianca etc. I remember we always changed the lines so at least we had some childs amusement when reciting them. Under the spreading chesnut tree the village smithy stand, the smith a mighty man is he, his muscles stretch like rubber bands or if it was Casabianca--The boy stood on the burning deck, eating peanuts by the peck. We had to memorize the first 12 stanzas of Snowbound and I'm sure we must have changed the words so that to us they were amusing.

I'll have to ask one of my great grandkids next time I see them if they still have to memorize poetry in this day and age.
