Design questions about lawn cleanup tool

I am working on a student design project and have a few questions about lawn care. The basis of our design problem is picking up leaves, grass clippings, etc. and getting it into bags or trash bins. Of note, I hate cleaning up yard waste where my dog goes to the bathroom-I don't even want to pick up stuff with gloves. I know that there are a number of products out there that have tried to address this problem (Lawn Glutton, Lawn Claws, for example). Please consider a few questions if you have any opinions or have also shared this problem.

Where do you dispose of your yard debris?

Plastic bags, paper bags, woodlands/open field , or garbage can?

What is you current method for dealing with yard debris?

Mulching/mowing, rake(s), leaf blower ,gloves, or other means.

Does pet waste discourage you from touching your leaves/clippings?

What color would you prefer a piece of yard equipment to be?

Are you satisfied with your current method of picking up yard debris?

Do back problems affect your yard work?

1. garbage bins
2.Mulch the lawn, use leaf blower/ hands (in gloves) to get piles of twigs/branches into a pile then just pick them up and put them in a garbage bin.

Okay, let's see; 89 octane fuel is okay. We need to know exactly what oil you put in and how many ounces. Seafoam is okay and 1 oz/gal is not excessive. A 2-cycle will smoke from the exhaust if there's too much oil in the gas. The 10550 has the 'Duraforce' engine that requires a 32:1 mix of Lawn-Boy oil. That's one 8 oz can to two gallons of fuel. Re-reading your post it sounds like you picked up two small bottles of 2-cycle oil, probably a synthetic or synthetic blend, possibly designed for a 50:1 mix. This actually should have been okay IF the mix was properly agitated before putting in the mower. The procedure on these hard-to-mix oils is to add the first bottle to about half a gallon of gas and try to mix it the best you can without slinging gas around. Then add about another half gallon, pour in the second bottle and mix again. Finish filling the can, cap it and shake vigorously. Shake the can before fueling the mower, every time. If I had to guess, I'd say you possibly did not have the oil well-mixed, and the gas you put in the mower was too light on oil. This caused the engine to overheat, usually causing permanent damage. At least it didn't seize, which is a hopeful sign. All Lawn-Boy two-cycles have iron cylinder sleeves, so perhaps it's not too bad. Check the air filter - remove it, wash it, dry it and oil it with 2-cycle oil or special filter oil. I'm trying to figure how smoke could come out of the carb. If you did scratch up the piston and bore, the compression would be low, possibly explaining the poor performance after the incident. This one thing probably explains the constantly-dwindling sales of the 2-cycle mowers leading up to Toro finally pulling the plug - all it takes is one time 'straight-gassing' a 2-cycle and it's junk. If they had been a hot seller, they would have found a way to make them compliant with emmissions laws. As it was, they decided to just get out of that game since the LB share of the market was so small. People today will not pay attention to details like this - they expect everything they use to be a 'refrigerator' - you plug it in and forget it. 4-cycle mowers are easy to maintain and have similar maintenance requirements as cars vis a vis oil changes and air filters.

Sorry, for the late reply. I just saw this. No, we've had so many other issues come up with the build that have required all my attention, I haven't had time to focus on this. I do plan to use 30"-36" sinks. I will let the final cabinet layout dictate the sink sizes, so long as we are in that range. If I have an extra 3" of wasted space, I'll go up in sink size, or if I need a few inches for the trash can, I'll go down a couple inches on the sink. The main thing I haven't decided on yet, is whether they'll both be apron sinks or one apron and one under mount. Or, one stainless steel and one fire clay/ceramic/etc? Oh boy, I guess I have a little more left to decide than I thought! I think lead time and prices will point in the right direction on material! LOL! @vevmom, if your island is 10' long, I think the 33" sink will work nicely. That is still less than 1/3 of your island. I think bbtrix's photos above are great for helping to visualize this. (Thanks again bbtrix!) That island is 8' long with a stages 45. You'll have 2 more feet of island, plus a smaller sink. Let me know what you decide.

Interesting... Many of these neighborhoods have H.O.A.'s that require lawn and landscaping up front, but I am guessing the builders of these homes have put in the perfunctory lawn in the back and side as suggested for "erosion control" and it is "cheaper to put in a lawn than it is to dig, prepare and plant foundation beds". Our builder adds some lawn to the sides and rear of the home. My plan is to suggest they move the lawn 7' away from the home so I can add foundation plantings. I am kind of glad that they do not put in the plantings because if I have no control over what goes in, there is a good chance that I would rip out, gift , and replace the plantings...

Here's mine:

1. Garbage bin
2. Combination: Rake/Blow debris into a pile, then Vacuum. I have one of those Blower/Vacuum, Toro Ultra to be exact.
3. No pets
4. While color doesn't play into my buying decision, I do like the orange/black color scheme of my Worx GT trimmer.
5. Not really, hoping you come up w/ a better design/way, then I might consider buying.
6. No.

Mulch mow/compost

Mulching/mowing, rake(s), leaf blower ,gloves, or other means.
Mulch mow clippings, compost what is too big to mow.

Does pet waste discourage you from touching your leaves/clippings?

No.

What color would you prefer a piece of yard equipment to be?

42 (I know it's not a color, but color doesn't make much difference to me and 42 is the answer to life the universe and everything)

Garbage can lined with platic bag.

What is you current method for dealing with yard debris?
I mulch my gass/leaves. In the fall, I rake a bit. I have a small dog so I let it lay (there isn't much!)

Does pet waste discourage you from touching your leaves/clippings?
No

What color would you prefer a piece of yard equipment to be?
Yellow

Are you satisfied with your current method of picking up yard debris?
Yes but always open to a better way.

Do back problems affect your yard work?
No, but laziness does.
