Lawn-boy coils

I am looking for 2 different LB coils for a couple mowers that I want to get running before I sell them. I need a 683080/683215 and a 684049. Other compatible coils (Toro, etc.) are acceptable. Does anyone have working used coils to sell? Thanks in advance.

Might try "baking" your bad coils. Several people claim to have had success by putting the coil in the oven at 200 degrees for about an hour. I tried it and my coil worked for one day but worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestion Walt. These two beasts (a 7073 and a 10201) have supposedly been out in the elements for about 4 years. They were very dirty and fairly covered with grease. I brought them home today and cleaned them thoroughly. After they were dry I drug them into the basement to start tinkering. I found that neither of them have spark. I cleaned the contacts on the coils with steel wool and re-installed them to try again. Still no spark. I can buy new aftermarket coils online for about $80 total for both so I may just do that. They need a few other misc parts but if they get too spendy without starting, I will just post them on Craig's List and cut my losses.

skane; please give us a break on the Husky commercials. This problem has nothing to do with Lawn-Boy or Toro - it's something about that batch of B&S engines, which have been known as solid performers since the first power mowers. I think anyone with one of the 'Insight' mowers (which Toro is phasing out of Lawn-Boy and painting red) has a solid mower. These new LB models Toro has put in Home Depot are about as cheap as a decent mower can be, even though they incorporate features of the LB 'Insight' and the Toro 'Recycler'. With the usually reliable B&S engine, they should sell very well for Toro. I cannot imagine what is happening with the B&S engines. lb2009; if you haven't already taken it back, review the owner's manual for starting procedures and see if you're not doing something. These new B&S engines are supposed to have an automatic choke, so there's no manual choke or primer. My guess is there's an adjustment problem with that cold-enrichment system.

Toro w/ suzuki engine coil problem

I have a Toro with the Suzuki engine aluminum deck with the blade brake/clutch. The mower is obviously older but worked perfectly until a couple weeks ago. It wouldn't start. The local Toro dealer told me it needed a coil for $150 plus $30 for installation. This is an old mower and I hate to spend that much on it, but it is much too nice to throw away. I checked the engine and it has no spark. Do you know where I could find a used/cheaper coil? On-line even the cheapest new one are $110-120 plus shipping. I bought one off ebay for $35 with a recoil starter assembly both parts are great but the mounting bolts for my coil are spaced slightly wider, 1/8 to 1/4 in. wider. I have heard that this coil is for the model without the blade brake/clutch. So I have a coil and recoil starter to trade also if you are interested. I put in one bolt and tried it out and it does produce a spark. I will also try the heating idea and see if I can resurect this old one.

I am not sure if baking the coil is really doing anything or if during the act of removing the coil for baking and then afterwards reconnecting the wire, cleaning the laminations and retighting the screws is actually what is causing the coil to work again. When I install a new cd pack I spray the laminations with clear polyurethane to prevent any rust from forming, also I spray the magnet on the flywheel for the same reason. These thin coatings do not affect the gap setting. In addition I make sure the two mounting bosses on the coil bracket are clean (no polyurethane here) and making good contact and I put a small amount of silicone grease on these two surfaces so they do not corrode.

On Lawn boy coils (the old beige style) on the F engines ,there is no test method....,BUT they require a ground to spark,this is a "Closed loop system".....if you disconnect the ground wire ,no spark will be present(to be sure it has a good ground run a jumper from the coil tab to a good engine ground,this takes the safety switches out of the loop.)....the opposite is true for the dark grey/black coils.... You may want to remove the coils and clean bright the mounting surfaces of both the coil and the mounting bracket. Long shot but some have had success.
