How long until Beach Plum and Paw Paw Fruit
Comments (5)Ed, The one paw paw got mowed down might re-sprout. Paw paw usually takes about 4-5 yrs to reach 7-8 feet tall and to produce. Mango is the most vigorous grower of all paw paws. Grafted American persimmon will take about 3-4 yrs to produce. Seedlings of D. Virginiana will take about 5-7 yrs to produce. You may want to protect these trees with wire cages to prevent them from being mowed down. Good luck!! Tony...See MoreJust got potted Peterson paw paws.
Comments (18)I ordered from Forrest Keeling when Peterson pawpaws became available. I was on a list Neal sent to the two nurseries. I waited for a long while after the expected delivery date, and finally called to see what was going on. I talked to the daughter of the man who started the nursery, and she informed me they couldn't deliver to Virginia, even though they had been sitting on my payment for months. I was very frustrated, and tried to find an alternative address to send to. There is actually a legal battle going on with Forrest Keeling and some east coast nursery that uses a similar air pruning pot. That is why they are not able to sell to certain states. A few months later I was called by Bob the sales guy, and he told me they had a problem with the pawpaws and wanted to make sure they could send out viable plants. I asked if they intended to send my plants and he said they did. I haven't seen them yet. I must stop procrastinating and call back. If they only will send to another state, well that could be difficult as most of my relatives are on the east coast....See MorePaw paw (Asiminia) planting, bare root and potted?
Comments (2)Is the bottom of the tube/pot open (tap root air-pruned)? Without knowing more of the specifics, I'd say... Evaluate the roots for misinformed/potbound roots when planing out. Don't disturb the roots any more than necessary when planting (but do address above problems). Keep a very close check on soil moisture at root level until the trees begin to establish. Provide plenty of shade for the first few days after planting....See MoreWhere to order PawPaws?
Comments (24)shelma, NJ is definitely within the original native range of A.triloba. I'm pretty sure I've seen some articles mentioning that in suburban areas of the northeast - and I'm thinking that the one I read was specifically regarding an area of NJ, that virtually all understory plants have been virtually decimated by the overpopulation of whitetail deer...except for pawpaw, which is not on their 'desired' browse list. Perhaps you just don't recognize them... I spent my youth ranging the forests of Alabama, and never knew what a pawpaw was... became interested in them in my late 30s... when someone finally pointed one out to me... I'd been seeing them all my life, but just didn't recognize them for what they were- and had never noticed one with fruits. Pawpaw...See Morem_taggart
