Paw paw (Asiminia) planting, bare root and potted?

I've had terrible luck transplanting paw paws and was hoping for tips if possible. I have bare root and potted.

The potted are named varieties, all in those 12" tall but 2" wide pots (made for tap roots I'm assuming).

Any tips? Or are they completely straight forward?

Then the bare roots- they are 2' tall seedlings (completely dormant). I bought 6. The ground is a peaty loam, keeps moist. Just plant them like you would any old apple?

I've got plastic tree guards this time as one reason for my past failures may have been too much sun with young trees. I will try anything! Thanks.
