Peach tree dead buds

This is the second spring this happened. The leaves are sprouting and as that happens all the buds get dry and fall of when touched. Since this happened last year i kept checking the buds this spring and they were still nice and solid swallen about two weeks ago. The tree is about 10years old, i am in Denver. I know i know, but for first 8 years i would get plenty of peaches about every other year, and about half as much other years. There were always ton of flowers in the spring. Last spring there was none and looks likethis spring will be same. Did they freeze?

Quite possibly. Peaches flower early and can be susceptible to late frosts' freeze damage to newly emerging leaves and buds. Most sources for your area suggest protecting them over winter and into spring, removing any protective wraps in midApril.

My swelling/pinkish peach buds would be toast when the nite time temp dipped into the mid 20's for 2 nights in a row while the day temp in-between remained in the 30's.

Most likely the tree will leaf out normally, but some of the flower buds may just blacken and fall off (i think that is what happened to a bunch of mine last spring). Could you pot up the new one you ordered and let the big one figure out if it wants to feed you juicy, yummy Iowa grown peaches :) You could always transplant later the, i read that peaches don't have many problems transplanting? I had -26F up here in Jan... our coldest temp. Still have no idea what kind of damage i sustained, although i'm tempted to rip every last tree out if they don't produce!!! and go with container grown dwarfs that i can protect from the elements and always have SOME fruit every summer.

give it another month .. you will know ... did the pot repeatedly freeze and thaw all winter long???? .. was the pot in any winter sun???? .. if so... you probably rotted the roots ... be nice to know where you are.. peach is rather variable... in many climes ... ESPECIALLY in a pot ... ken

I'm not experienced with peach leaf curl, but I see some other clues in your photo. I read that peach leaf curl is encouraged by cool damp conditions, so it expresses in cool damp springs, and is less problem in hot dry summer. Well, I see a big tree close by. Perhaps your peach tree is too much in the shade of that tree (all day sun will help dry off the water after dew or rain) and too much protected from air movement that would dry the leaves. Not only the tree, but the nearby fence and little cedars might cast shade and reduce airflow. The other thing is the rhododendron shrub next to the tree. Rhododendrons like shade and I think they like high humidity. Is that further evidence that you've got the tree in poor environment for a fruit tree?
