Peach tree dead buds

This is the second spring this happened. The leaves are sprouting and as that happens all the buds get dry and fall of when touched. Since this happened last year i kept checking the buds this spring and they were still nice and solid swallen about two weeks ago. The tree is about 10years old, i am in Denver. I know i know, but for first 8 years i would get plenty of peaches about every other year, and about half as much other years. There were always ton of flowers in the spring. Last spring there was none and looks likethis spring will be same. Did they freeze?

Quite possibly. Peaches flower early and can be susceptible to late frosts' freeze damage to newly emerging leaves and buds. Most sources for your area suggest protecting them over winter and into spring, removing any protective wraps in midApril.

My swelling/pinkish peach buds would be toast when the nite time temp dipped into the mid 20's for 2 nights in a row while the day temp in-between remained in the 30's.

Scrape the bark to tell what is dead, brown, and what is alive, green. You have no choice but to cut off dead wood. Young peaches are resilient. It should grow back strongly unless there are deeper issues. You can train and prune the new growth into a balanced tree. It may cost a years worth of growth and fruit but would be better than a totally dead tree. It looks like there might be a canker where the trunk branches.

The trees were just planted last year. That is the tree trunk. I havent gone threw a budding stage with them since I bought them last spring with the leaves out already. I was looking at the buds again. I think they actualy went from one silver bud to a seperated silver bud. Then when looking at them I see the brown between what was one bud split into two now. Do they open up into two buds like a duck bill with his mouth open? I am worried about the freeze tonight. We are supposed to get down to 29 deg! Will that be bad at the stage they are in?

give it another month .. you will know ... did the pot repeatedly freeze and thaw all winter long???? .. was the pot in any winter sun???? .. if so... you probably rotted the roots ... be nice to know where you are.. peach is rather variable... in many climes ... ESPECIALLY in a pot ... ken

When I lived in and did landscaping in northern California I would often have my new clients from southern California ask me what was wrong with their deciduous trees in the fall. I would have to tell them this is what happens to these trees in the fall.
