Stunning "Open and Shut" Concept Kitchen

Easy to see was the predisposition for this home to have an open concept kitchen/family room. Built at the height of the building craze for connected family spaces, an oversize refrigerator, boxy island, and under-used canted floor area left this crowded, eat-in kitchen without requisite space for family members and guests to gather, share a meal and just have fun. Being receptive, however, to using the bay window in a fresh, unlikely way and reimagining a kitchen island that did double duty clinched the deal.

By positioning the major appliances along an outside wall, room was made for a larger island that serves as both a prep center and eating area. Eliminating the former sink window made for a cooktop in the middle of an effortless work triangle with microwave and beverage center at the periphery. Enlarging the opening to the dining room and replacing the family room broadloom with hardwood enhanced the flow between all adjacent areas. Finishing touches such as sparkling light fixtures, curved mosaic tile, and soft circular lines conformed this space into a gorgeous, winsome, and engaging family room . . . clearly an open and shut case of open concept!
